Enid's Husband - Hugh Alexander Pollock

My late Aunt lives near Ayr and my husband was clearing out her garage last week. The garage was packed with a lot of junk but he came across this box.
We are not sure exactly what the contents are (mathematical or calligraphy?) The name on the box is Alex Pollock 9th Nov 1897. (Her husband, Hugh Alexander Pollock was born 29th July 1888. Could this have belong to him?
