I've never heard Enid compared to Jimi Hendrix before:

I like the comment 'while Blyton wrote a great many books...she was not prolix within them.

No, neither have I! An enjoyable article and good to see Enid's writing style and sheer creativity praised so highly. Thanks for sharing that, Kate Mary.Kate Mary wrote:I've never heard Enid compared to Jimi Hendrix before:

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Yes, it's great to see an article which looks at the texts and attempts to show what makes Enid Blyton's stories so captivating and enduring.Courtenay wrote:An enjoyable article and good to see Enid's writing style and sheer creativity praised so highly.

Thanks Kate Mary. That was a superb article. As others have said it is refreshing and pleasing to see Enid being given her due and taken seriously rather than dismissed by snobs. I actually believe there is truth in his musing on whether she would have been accorded more respect if she had been a drug user. In any case the description of the faraway tree lands as "Fantastical airships" was very apt in a sort of psychedelic way.

For some reason I'm having visions of a new "adult Famous Five" along the lines of Five Go Tripping on LSD. I suppose that's too late now - unless you edit your post, Courtenay, and hope they haven't read it yet .
