Exbury is in the New Forest I believe; which is in Hampshire on the south coast. There should be a train station somewhere near it.

Exbury is in Hampshire, Sue, & is home to the World famous Exbury gardens. The village/gardens are served by the New Forest tour bus. Unfortunately, this is a seasonal service which doesn't start till the end of June! The nearest train station to Exbury is Brockenhurst...some distance away! The only way to get to Exbury out of season is by car or taxi, but the latter will cost around £30! However, if there are enough Society members who are going to Exbury & arriving by train at Brockenhurst, then the taxi would obviously be cheaper! (Google Exbury & Brockenhurst location maps & details).

I'll be arriving by train, as I won't be allowed to drive. I'm due to have ankle ligament surgery 4 Weeks prior to the Exbury meet. I'll be able to walk, but I won't have the strength to push down on the car pedals!

That's a shame, Sue. Hopefully, someone will read your post who is going to Exbury that may be able to offer you a lift. Fingers crossed! :D

hi have any members seen the new grown up version of the famous five books? I recently bought one in Cardiff called FIVE ON A STRATEGY AWAY DAY and got the others in Waterstones in Walsall called FIVE ON BREXIT ISLAND, FIVE GO GLUTEN FREE, FIVE GIVE UP THE BOOZE, and FIVE GO PARENTING. Not bad , they are all grown up and working after going to uni. I still prefer the 5 as children and read their adventures though.

We've got a thread on the adult books here, Sue:

They're nice-looking books but I've read four of them and found them contrived, rambling and lacking in bite.

I agree. not a bit like the old stories. the 5 seem rather unkind , in one book they hate the secret 7. being adults has changed them into people I don't fancy having for friends.

Five on Brexit Island was the worst for me (I haven't yet read Five Go Gluten Free) as I don't picture Julian as being anything like Boris Johnson!

Can any F5 club member recall wanting to obtain the addresses of the Famous Five cast on TV, so you could write to them, then receiving this sort of reply from Darrell Waters Ltd in 1978?
