Bill's Diary

Post by Sally »

Another superb offering from Terry Gustafson based on Mountain - these accounts from Bill's perspective seem to get better as the series goes on. I suspect this one was even more difficult to write as the story is probably more far-fetched than the others and somewhat Bond-like - but I really enjoyed it and I liked the way Terry is gradually progressing Bill and Allie's relationship in the most realistic way. We have all wondered what really went on at the Farmhouse while the kids were adventuring and now we know - they were having a ball without realising the predicament the children were in! The second half of the story then takes on a very serious dimension with Terry really building up the suspense as Bill prepares the rescue.

As always, Terry has researched the area completely and the village where he bases the farmhouse, Dyffryn Mymbyr has a real life farmhouse, offered for holiday lets by the National Trust - http://www.nationaltrustcottages.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. - in the Snowdonia area as he describes. There is also an associate cottage available. (I am not an agent, honestly, and have never stayed with the National Trust!) Interestingly, this very farmhouse is the one featured in the true story, I Bought a Mountain, written by Thomas Firbank in the 1930's. I bought a second hand copy recently from Amazon and in the process of reading it.

Thank you Terry - roll on Ship and the remainder of the series. Your work is much appreciated!

I agree that it reads so real. The work that has been put into these diary extracts is exceptional.

I really liked the new Diary, I needed 3 hours to read... I love all of Bill's Diary, but I'm partial to Sea, as I always wondered what happend to him while we follow the kids in the book.
I'm also looking forward to the next Diarys. It will be a sad day, when they finish!!

All of Bill's diaries were brilliant, and I think that Terry captures what I imagine Bill's style to be, really well. I'm looking forward to "Ship".

Bill's Diary

Merged with previous topic.

I hear from Terry that the next instalment of Bill's Diary is on its way - hot from the Greek islands! No doubt Tony will let us know when it is on the website in the Continuation Books section. Guess this will be a cracker!

Bill's Diary - continuation books continuing?

Post by DelilahFP »

Merged with an older thread.

Possibly the incorrect place to ask (sorry!) but....will there be any further instalments, does anyone know? I absolutely love what has been written so far, especially as I particularly love the Adventure series. Can I hope? Or should I prepare myself for disappointment :-(

Just off on holiday for 2 weeks, and had hoped that the next instalment of Bill's Diary would be available - sadly not. No doubt Tony will let us know in due course!
