Well in my view the Five On A Treasure Island one is very good - and at least we know it had Enid's approval! :D

Good point Rob. I'm trying to remember if Enid mentioned or discussed her views on the film in The Enid Blyton Magazine at all?

She mentions it several times in the magazines I reviewed last year. I'm sure the references can be seen in Tony's scans of Enid's fortnightly editorial letter. She went to watch some of the filming, and she was thrilled with the actors taking part. She seemed pretty pleased - although of course she would hardly say she wasn't, I guess!

Its funny how Nigel and I have completely different views about the Five On A Treasure Island serial. he hates it...but I tend to think its the most genuine version, as well as loving the fact it was filmed in Corfe village and of course Corfe Castle, as well as Durdle Door etc. :D

I guess we all have our likes and dislikes.
His aversion to paperbacks was a surprise, but I have to say that hardbacks do seem to last a lot longer than paperbacks in the long run.

I was bought both paperback and hardback Blytons when young, so as long as I got my regular ' Blyton Fix' I never complained!

Like you, Pete, I had paperbacks and Dean hardbacks as a kid - plus a hardback with a dust jacket (Rilloby Fair) bought for 10p from a school jumble sale!! :-D I liked the Dean versions best for some reason!

Enid was alive when this film was made. What was behind this name change? Was it done with Enid's approval?

I must admit the name change is puzzling.

I also like the 1990's version...but the main reason I like the 1957 serial is that its longer and less rushed.
