Enid Blyton meets Last of the Summer Wine?Lucky Star wrote:I can picture her and Jack, Dinah and Philip, all widowed now, living out their days in Craggy Tops which they have had completely renovated inside from their accumulated wealth. I was just thinking that if our dear Enid would be alive today!
Oh dear! She would be 110 years old! Would she still be writing?!

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.

What actually happened was:
Philip married George(ina), because he could wind her up just like he wound Dinah up;
Jack married Anne, because she'd look after him and cook his dinner;
Lucy-Anne married Julian, because she'd got used to the idea of following a self-important bloke around and carrying out his every whim;
Dinah married Dick, because he was the only one left;
and Timmy ate Kiki.

That's a good one, dsr! Poor Kiki, though.
I sort of imagined Philip marrying Lucy-Ann, and Jack marrying Dinah.... perhaps not!

Good one dsr. They probably employed Barney as a chauffeur and Snubby as a butler too.

A realationship between Philip and Lucy-Ann I consider possible, after all Philip cosiders Lucy-Ann to be a decent girl and Lucy-Ann admires Philip's ways with animals, but Jack and Dinah... I seriously doubt that this would work.Ming wrote:

As an Enid Blyton fan I would rather like her characters to not to age - just like the way she kept her characters. To me Lucy-Ann is still a small girl.dsr wrote:Lucy-Ann will be about 70 or so now, won't she? Maybe it's her last job before retirement, and spending her time looking after Jack in his old age.

Ginger beer never tasted as nice as I imagined it would from reading about it in the books...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Hilarious!
In recent months I have also developed a taste for Orange Lucozade. It's delicious ice cold from the fridge. Does anyone else like it?
I disagree, Pete. I think it does taste as nice and "Old Jamaica" tastes even nicer.pete9012S wrote:Ginger beer never tasted as nice as I imagined it would from reading about it in the books...

I generally don't drink any fizzy 'pop' these days - and hardly any cordial either - as most of it contains Aspartame - which I refuse to drink. All this sugar talk, and then they get rid of sugar and put a cancer inducing chemical in their drinks instead. grrr!

...that Jamaica Ginger cake and custard tastes divine!
ps
Eddie,I will try the Orange Lucozade. Is it still wrapped in brightly coloured plastic wrapping - it's been a long time since I bought some. I think it was bought for me around 1975 when I was feeling poorly!

Re: I Always Think.......
Orange Lucozde is actually Orangeade, Pete, and nothing like the Lucozade in your picture and certainly not a health drink. You can buy packs of six 380ml bottles for around £2 to £3 per pack, depending on promotional offers, in supermarkets.

Re: I Always Think.......
Has anyone tried Pepsi Max ginger. My other half, who loves old Jamaican full sugar version, really likes the taste of this one. No sugar but added chemicals.
