Thanks, Pete — I could read it from that second link. A good-all-round Blyton story with a few mysterious (sometimes slightly creepy) twists and a surprise towards the end! Thanks for sharing it.

It seemed to me you could possibly stretch it into a Secret Seven story with a bit of padding!

That's one I have in the Holiday book and also the Purnell version.

First time I've read that story. It reminded me of the Secret Seven story about the cave and Albert Tanner. Thanks Pete.

'his' illustrations are always a bit creepy!! I'm not a fan of A.L. Mazure - he/she illustrates a few Holiday Book stories.

I have that Purnell Sunshine Library book - Happy Adventure Tales. It's a particularly good volume as it's full of mini adventure stories. Both stories have different illustrations in the Purnell Sunshine Library series.

Thank you, Pete. I love Purnell Sunshine Library series because it gathers EB stories with the same theme in one book. So each book has different theme. Easy for us to pick one based on our mood.

Yes, I thought the same - in fact I almost wrote above that the illustrator was 'LEO' who illustrated The Troublesome Three, and then I corrected my post, as I looked up the illustrator and saw it 'wasn't' LEO after all...but maybe it was. Perhaps the 'L' in the initials was 'Leo'.

Although I said I disliked the illustrations in this story, I think its more the colours I dislike. I rather like The Troublesome Three illustrations, if it IS the same illustrator. They look better in full colour. I don't like the selective colour in the Holiday books with the bright red lips and yellow hair - looks very odd!

The Purnell version was reissued more recently if people want to buy it. There are lots of short adventure stories in it, as Anita says'.

A very similar book to 'Happy Adventure Tales' is this one by Award books - 'The Secret Door and other stories'. It has many of the short adventure stories that appear in the earlier book except The Prisoner in the Cave an The Astonishing Guy.
