I've been reading one short story a day from the book Tales At Bedtime - a really enjoyable collection of tales.
So far, by far my most favourite story has to be 'Tom the Scout-Cub' - what a great amusing story with a strong moral! One of Enid's best of this type of story I thought. The way she could see into a child's mind was amazing, and well illustrated here! I;m ashamed to say that Tom reminded me of how I was sometimes as a child; doing chores lazily and thinking I could get away with a job half done! Enid certainly got this spot-on! Brilliant story!

I like 'Tom the Scout-Cub' too. Other favourites from that book are 'Junket Through the Window', 'You're Late!' and the deliciously sombre 'They Took the Wrong Road'.

Yes - I read 'They Took The Wrong Road' last night = 'deliciously sombre' is a good way to describe it! It reminded me a little of a 'trailer' for 'The Six Bad Boys'!
