I found only three birds. That's because I don't know many of the birds' names in English!
The next puzzle was easy.

I can see seven mistakes, no make that eight.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

I found only 11 things. Are there more. I'm not sure.

Neatness in writing will be taken into consideration - can't imagine any competition organiser being able to put that nowadays.

Re: 80 Years Ago This Month - Sunny Stories 1937
This riddle is a bit tricky:
I type it because there are answers below it.
My first is in snail but not in frog,
My second's in pigeon but not in dog,
My third is in cat, and also in bear,
My fourth is in tiger, and also in hare,
My fifth is in bird, but not in owl,
My sixth is in fox, and also in fowl,
My seventh's in cow, but isn't in moo,
My whole stays with us all the year through.

so far I've found 25 things beginning with P.
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

What a wonderful collection of stories and poems from March 1937 Sunny Stories. I love the little picture strip stories they remind me of early comics like The Rainbow with Tiger Tim and Mrs Hippo's school. Some lovely uncollected stories in issue 10 and Enid commends a reader, Joyce Dawson for a good idea and gives her full address! Innocent times. There are some good poems and a puzzle sent in by readers too.
Here is a link to issue no.8, if you are not familiar with the Cave just click on the forward arrows to read further issues.

Re: 80 Years Ago This Month - Sunny Stories 1937
Fantastic! Thanks very much indeed, Tony. The letters, poems, stories and picture-strips are lovely and it's brilliant to see the illustrations by E. H. Davie, Hilda McGavin, Dorothy Wheeler, M. Thorp and others. The children who sent in puzzles and poems must have been over the moon to see their work so beautifully illustrated.
I enjoyed the 'What's Wrong?' puzzle in Issue 8.
The poem by Jimmy Lane in Issue 10 ('Where Shall We Go?') is very Blyton-like. I'm thinking that M. Thorp ought to have drawn more than one person on the rocking-horse, or at least a doll or teddy-bear with the child, because the poem says, "Where shall we go on my rocking-horse?" and "Hold on tightly to me".
Poor old Stamp-About in 'Oh, Mister Stamp-About!' I'd have been annoyed at those big bags on the seats too, though hopefully I wouldn't have dealt with the situation in quite the same way! Fancy his aunt being called Sally Widdle! I wonder if she's related to the Mr. Widdle who also had a most uncomfortable train journey ('Mr. Widdle on the Train')?!
E. H. Davie's final picture for 'The Foolish Guinea-Pig', showing the foxes approaching their entrance hole, is gorgeous.
I love the poem 'The Golden Beak'.
Peter Bryant's puzzle in Issue 11 took a bit of working out but I got there in the end.

Re: 80 Years Ago This Month - Sunny Stories 1937
There are actually relatively few early Sunny Stories that have uncollected stories in them, as most have been carefully harvested by Enid into various short story books, but I had to work overtime on March as No. 10 had three uncollected stories in it. Even more difficult was the fact that the competition page had been cut out (painting comp.?) and the whole magazine was falling to pieces as a result.
Apologies that there is no letter from No. 9, but this is another issue that I don't actually have a copy of.
