Re: 60 Years Ago This Week - Enid Blyton's Magazine 1957 -
I'm just hoping Tony knows what he's let himself in for, lol!! Seriously, it will be a lot less stress for me every fortnight!! I can just write a shorter review, which suits me, as I was sometimes struggling to know what to write about, especially on the odd occasion when nothing interested me greatly in Enid's 'Editorial' letter.
Enid's letters in the magazine are well worth reproducing. I have been hoping Tony would reproduce them since I started my reviews in July, but didn't like to ask! I just have to figure out a new format for the next issue review so I can avoid repeating everything that people can now read for themselves.
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

It's good to see the photo - and the editorial letters. Thanks, Tony! Enid gives a very interesting overview of the clubs in one of the letters.

I agree - I found that interesting too - and its a very good example of me deciding I just couldn't share it all, as it was just too much to type! I'm glad people can now read it.

That post must hold the record for the number of smilies - including two lols!Rob Houghton wrote:Thanks for doing that, Tony - it means I will have to quote less! On the other hand, you're making a rod for your own back, as I'm pretty sure most people just click on the link and read your scans, to save having to read my review! I know some people dislike long posts!
The letters were my main reason for reviewing the magazines...so I will soon just need to provide a link, lol!! However, that's okay by me, as I won't need to write such a detailed review.

Enid's letter mentioned putting out a "lucky bag" for the birds. I distinctly remember a teacher at primary school talking about this, this would be back in the early 1960s. I wonder if the teacher had read the magazine.

It's something I'd never heard about before - a really good idea. I'm thinking of trying it myself, although I'm not sure exactly what to put in it!

I know - I just found it amusing that this was your first comment!
Anyway - I'm now looking forward to the idea of having the Editorial included in the scans - thanks Tony. I was feeling a bit fraught yesterday for various reasons, but not so grumpy today!

Re: 60 Years Ago This Week - Enid Blyton's Magazine 1957 -
A bit harsh on the old boy, Rob, but I know you said it in jest! In fairness he does comment on most of the updates to the website, which is more than can be said for some of our other regular users. We have a faithful group of forumites who take an interest in any additions such as yours, but sadly there are others who would claim to have a keen interest in Blyton who have never made a single comment on anything that has been added to this website. Despite this they are happy to write glowing comments on other websites.
I must admit I do sometimes wonder like you, if it is all worth it as I have already spent well over 50 hours adding to this website this year and it is sad to think that there are some who are deliberately boycotting anything that I do and that includes the Journal.

I just love teasing and making fun of Nigel - but he should know by now that this is my way, and I enjoy the banter between us!
I must admit, I am probably one of those who don't comment a great deal on the website additions - often because unless someone puts a link up to them I don't even notice that anything has been added! This is something I'm trying to improve, because I don't explore the site as much as I should! I didn't realise there are people on here deliberately boycotting things you add to the site, including the Journal! That's awful!

I didn't know that either. Maybe we should get the Find-Outers to investigate.

Thanks, Tony! Not only do I try to comment on website updates, I also try to put them all on Facebook, too. Maybe I should put a link to your EB Magazine thread, too, Rob!

You'll have to stop the banter now then, Rob, and start licking his boots.Rob Houghton wrote:I just love teasing and making fun of Nigel - but he should know by now that this is my way, and I enjoy the banter between us!
