I love that story, from the Treasury, and the pictures from that story, take me back to nostalgia days. :D

A heartwarming tale with beautiful illustrations. My favourite part is Betsy's remark about Mrs. Sullivan who (like many of us) is an adult who enjoys children's books:

"And isn't it queer, Ellen, Mrs. Sullivan likes just the kind of stories I like! We read a most exciting school story for a whole hour!"

it's a story I have mentioned a lot on here when we discuss Christmas stories - one of my favourites. But then, every story in 'Enid Blyton's Treasury' is worth reading. The Cheat and 'Well My Father Says' are two school stories from that book that are brilliant examples of Enid's best writing!

Thanks for posting that, Pete. I must read it to my grandchildren this Christmas. Although they don't eat meat, I am sure they will enjoy it!

Thought I would give this story a bump for those that may not have read it - It's from the recently mentioned Treasury.

Always nice to read this (again) before Christmas.

I love Enid's stories about families having troubles where the children work together to solve a problem (often with at least one parent 'missing' or ill).

Yes, I agree with that view. I think Four in a Family is along similar lines.
