The Enid Blyton Society

To put Francis' "Sunny Stories" bargains in perspective, a couple of lots came up on e-bay recently:

Those prices for Sunny Stories are ridiculously high, the same person has bought two lots there for just under £80 and that is for 6 magazines! I also saw a copy of Let's Pretend at £360 and it isn't even wearing its dustwrapper. I am glad I don't collect any more, I couldn't afford to buy anything. I am still missing 17 Sunny Stories myself, but I haven't attempted to buy any of them in the last ten years, I am just thankful that I have at least got 536 of them as at these sort of prices it would cost a fortune starting from scratch!

I'm grateful I collected most of my Blyton books ten or 15 years ago, when I could still find a few bargains around. At the time I considered that some things I bought were very overpriced, but I had money to burn at the time and so I bought what I wanted. Most of my second and third edition Adventure books with dust wrappers cost around £20 each which I'm guessing is a lot...but I'm sure they would be more expensive now. One of my best buys, which I bought for £12 was Enid Blyton's Omnibus, in very good condition with a very good dust wrapper. These days, I see much worse condition copies like this -

Those do look very expensive. I wonder how much these job-lots are going to go for, when people are prepared to pay £40+ for just three magazines! -

Yes, the omnibus is one of those books ("The Land Of Far Beyond" is another) that seems to command a premium these days for some reason. I paid a similar price to you Robert for a reasonable copy but mine was without dust wrapper.
