I saw in the Cave of Books section that there were over 900 short story books. Roughly how many short stories were there altogether? Sorry if this has been mentioned before!

In a Journal article, Tony Summerfield estimated that Enid Blyton wrote about 4,000 - 5,000 short stories.

I suppose only a person which wrote for a newspaper maybe. But Mark Twain, Poe ---- or Kafka not really I suppose. Mmmmm, Charles M. Schulz could be a candidate ...

10,000 is an estimate I've often read; but I gather it's a considerable over-estimation. It gets bandied about a lot, though, so I suppose it must have been claimed by someone influential or well-known in the Blyton world.
Has anyone ever made a systematic catalogue of these stories (or of the novels, either) that is considered reasonably close to complete? Is Tony's bibliography the closest that's ever been achieved so far?

Regards, Michael.

HI--Happy Hours Story Book is one among the lovely hundreds of short stories written by dear old Blyton.I like the 12 chapters on the Happy House Family.ITS really lovely to read.Once again it conveys a lovely message-how one's good qualities influence others who learn by them,if they are lucky.Try and get this book and read it.

A look inside The Cave gives an idea of the number of Short Stories Series books. By clicking on each series, a list of the included stories appears.

I wouldn't really call those short stories, although they are not full-length novels. Novellas, maybe?

A few not too short --not too long stories are ''The Mystery That Never Was''--''The Treasure Hunters'',''The Boy Next Door''---they are full length--but not too long either. Lovely---theillustrations look more like Rene Cloke.

I'd say the last few titles you've mentioned are novels, Snehalatha. If you put the titles into the Cave of Books, you can find out the names of the illustrators.

I don't suppose anyone remembers which Journal that was? I'd like to re-read it.
