I found this on the society page:

and this:

Ok, the pichture will suggest it's not Timmy the dog, but isn't it?
Are the both pichtures the pichtures of the story?
How is the content of the story. Hope somebody will have an idea. :-)
friendly greetings from Soenke, Flensburg (Germany)

On Oct 22nd, 2012 "Soenke Rahn" wrote concerning a story in an EB Magazine:

"Ok, the pichture will suggest it's not Timmy the dog, but isn't it?

******************

"A Dog Called Timmy" is about some fans of the Famous Five who start up a Club of their own. They even call themselves Julian, Dick, George, and Anne but they have no Timmy, only a cat called Jimmy, so they befriend a dog belonging to a gypsy and become a proper "Five," all ready for an adventure.

When the gypsy falls ill, Timmy arrives at George's place all by himself to get some assistance from the kids. The dog's master is taken off to hospital, so George brings Timmy home with her to give him a jolly good wash and is absolutely thrilled when her mother says he looks so nice that she wouldn't mind if her daughter adopted him.

Says Julian. "We're awfully like the 'Five' because we've had an unexpected adventure just like they do, and Timmy's in it just like their Timmy, and it's got a happy ending! Someone ought to write about it!"

Well, someone did - and that "someone" was Enid Blyton of course.

The "real" Famous Five have more exciting times, but you never know - Richard, Jack, Betty, and Sue (their real names) and the dog (he didn't really have a proper name before George adopted him), may work up to have a thrilling escapade of their own.

The illustrations are not by Eileen Soper so you couldn't really mix the characters up with the genuine Famous Five.

I haven't read this story yet.I must go and root out the two magazines and read it right away.
It sounds like an interesting little story.Anyone else remember reading it?

Maybe, just maybe, if we ask nicely, Tony might put it in the Journal; please? I don't own any any Enid Magazines or Sunny Stories, that's why I enjoy Rob's 60 years ago thread and the Sunny Stories 80 years ago one, as well as any uncollected stories that are reprinted in the Journal. Here's hoping.

What made me smile from the resume above was that, apparently, the poor ill gypsy just has his dog taken off him! Does he stay in hospital for ever? Does he die? Presumably he does, if 'George' can just adopt his dog?!!

The last two letters from Enid to her readers in these issues are moving.I get a sense of things winding down as Enid's output begins to diminish regarding her main series.
According to the June letter 'Five On A Secret Trail' was certainly a very popular choice with her readers at that time!

I found Enid's last letter to her readers about closing down the magazine quite sad. It sounded like she really enjoyed writing the magazine and didn't want to stop.

Her husband's retirement meant that as they intended to spend more time together it would leave Enid no free time to write the magazine anymore.

I agree - the letters are very moving - and it must certainly have been a sudden decision, as the Secret Seven serial is quickly rounded off in two chapters, and fills most of the magazine, while the Bom story, as Enid says, is left hanging in mid-air.

Enid shows some genuine sadness in giving up the magazine. I know she gives her reasons as being partly to do with her husband's retirement etc, but I do wonder if she was showing initial signs of dementia at this point, and realised she was finding it harder to cope.

One thing I also found a bit sad - and I'm sure a few children must have felt depressed about this! - Enid chose to end her magazine just when summer holidays were over and school was starting again! How awful!! :-(

I have all 12 issues from 1959, thanks to a certain Society member! ;-)

Sadly I haven't as No. 11 seems to have gone walkabout! So as I don't have Part 1 it looks as if I won't be able to put it anywhere. It would have been too long for the Journal as Part 2 alone is nine pages, but I was going to scan it and put it on the website for people like Kate who haven't seen it.

I'd offer to scan it but my scanner isn't fixed to my computer and so I can only scan'hard copies'. Maybe Pete will be able to scan his copy of part 1?

That's a shame Tony, but thank you for the kind thought and for all you do on the website and for the Society. It is much appreciated.
