That bit in brackets says 'Sunday Mail & Burkes 1946', Nigel, but it's referring to the story above ('The Disappearing Prizes').

As Tony said, below the Twiddle story it says 'Ewing's Annual'. However, Tony and David haven't been able to find any information about an annual of that title.

Edit: Just realised you might have been saying it's impossible to tell whether it says 'Mr.' or 'Mrs.', Nigel. If so, I see what you mean!
