It's good to hear that you're enjoying the stories, Jen-Jen. I don't know whether you've seen it, but there's a thread dedicated to Mr. Pink-Whistle:

Mr Meddle reminds me of Michael Crawford's character in the television show Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'em. I always feel a bit sorry for Mr Meddle - he tries so hard to do the right thing, yet always comes undone and as a result no one really wants him around.

I too have always thought of Mr. Meddle as a pixie version of Frank Spencer!

Jekyll and de ... My winner is Amelia Jane

She's bold, she's bad, she's naughty and trouble is never that far behind her but she is also loving and caring and the toys love her dearly.

She doesn't intend to hurt ... she is by far the most interesting and loveable character

I like Mr Pinkwhistle. I was not too fond of Amelia Jane even as a child.
Brer rabbit is quite smug and irritating after the first few pages and not really my cup of tea.
Mr Twiddle is quite amusing when I read the books now though! :)

I didn't want to start a whole new thread for a small question so I thought I'd pop it here.

It's about Mr Twiddle. In Eva Rice's "Who's Who" she has put the Twiddle books under "Toys and Enchantment" which I disagree with, I feel the Twiddle stories (though ridiculous at times) are set in a 'real' world, and feature 'real' people. Obviously it is fiction, but they're supposed to be real - like the Famous Five or the Six Cousins.

My problem is - they're in the cave under "Fantasy" which I'm afraid to say I also disagree with.

Am I forgetting about some magical element to the stories?

Sorry to bump this, but does anyone have any opinion of whether Mr Twiddle belongs in the "Toys and Enchantment" section or not?

I don't have the books to hand to double check, but I don't remember any fantasy or magical elements to the Twiddle books at all. I don't think there are any talking animals or pixies or wizards, etc, and the characters are all human as far as I can remember.

The Twiddles seem to inhabit a very unexciting, ordinary sort of world (the main setting being their own very ordinary home) and I would agree that it is set in the 'real' world as opposed to a fantasy one, so I suppose it doesn't really fit in the 'Toys and Enchantment' section.

I should probably add that I have not read Eva Rice's "Who's Who", just in case that matters!...

Hi there-Its so difficult to choose--theres Twiddle,Meddle,Pinkwhistle,BrerRabbit--is endless--but I have for Pinkwhistle--the little pixie man who can make himself invisible too and goes round keeping naughty people in their places-And forget Sooty who is as cute as her master.--Snehalatha.
