Where's Enid? - Primary School Book List

Post by GloomyGraham »

Just reading through a story about children from British schools selecting 70 favourite books to encourage primary school-children to read.

I find it amazing that they wouldn't have at least nominated one Blyton title. Mind you, other authors such as Tolkien & Lewis are missing too.

Wonder if any adults vetted the list.

It is surprising not to see a single Enid Blyton book mentioned. For pace, excitement and readability, she's hard to beat! Personally, I'd also have included E. Nesbit and C. S. Lewis. I would agree with quite a few of the choices though. It's good to see authors like Michael Morpurgo, Cressida Cowell, Dr Seuss, Michael Bond, Eva Ibbotson, Noel Streatfeild, Roald Dahl and Anthony Horowitz on the list.
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.
