Get-Together at Exbury, Sat 12th May 2018

Post by Sally H »

I haven't had chance to join the forum much in recent months for various reasons but wondered if there are any plans for another Blyton forum reunion later this year or next? I may have missed a thread on this but wondered if someone would update me - any ideas? I would love to meet up with everyone again.

Thread title changed now we've decided on the place and date.

Hope you are keeping well, Sally.

There has been no mention of any reunion this year, and I guess it's too early for anyone to arrange anything for next year, so you haven't missed any thread on that subject yet. :)

Hi Sally. There was mention of a meet up at Exbury Gardens earlier in the year (May). Gary Russell had pencilled himself in to be there, but had to cancel due to work commitments. I, stupidly, suggested re-arranging the meet up to sometime in July so that Gary may be able to join us for a tour round Exbury gardens, where a lot of the F5 scenes were filmed. I thought that would add something else to the meet up. Unfortunately, Gary was laden down with work & couldn't make it. Things then fizzled out due to conflicting dates, views, etc, so it never materialised. I take full responsibility for the botch up & for taking away a day out for those who wanted to visit in May!

Sally I am always up for a meeting in Beaconsfield - the model village has had some changes and I did love it. The pub was good as well. As you can see (and you know yourself) it is difficult to get everybody to agree on dates or locations. In my opinion as long as more than one goes it is always worthwhile to meet up.

Beaconsfield isn't much more than an hour's drive from where I live, and I've never been there before, so I'd be glad to have a meet-up there if one ever goes ahead — although I often can't guarantee I'll be available, as my work shifts vary a lot. But I still live in hope that I might be able to make it one day.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Good to hear from you, Sally. :D

Like Francis, Chick and I are always up for a meeting in Beaconsfield - or anywhere else with an Enid Blyton connection for that matter. We are open to suggestions for venue and date. :D

I'm always up for a meet up, especially in Enid country and Beaconsfield was great last time we all met there.

For us it would probably be next year now.

Bekonscot is open until the end of October and I thought early October on a Saturday might be a good idea. For me the 14th October is the best date. We wouldn't have to have a large number of forumites coming to make it valuable although the more the better. The last time I looked at the model village there was some changes since the time we visited on our 'Blyton' day. Even Enid had moved although she was still in Green Hedges!
It was Interesting to spot the changes from our photos.

As Julie and others might only be available for next year it would be lovely to have a larger scale visit in 2018.

I am sure that a visit next year could be arranged at a time when you could come - you are a vital part of the forum, Julie and it would be lovely to see you again.

If I might stick my oar in, I think the main reason that this year's meet up in Exbury didn't take place is that it became too democratic! A date is mentioned by A then B posts to say he can't make that date - and so it goes on. We didn't have our Society Days by consensus - a date was given and we either attended or stayed away. I would therefore suggest that a date and place is fixed - if any of us can't make that date, then although a pity, it is inevitable.

See below, to prove my point:
Sadly I wouldn't be able to do the 14th October, sadly.

We can't please all the people all the time, Nigel. But I agree if a date is set then the date should stay. But if many can't make it, then it's not going to be such a grand meeting. :)
