The great Glen Campbell has dies aged 81. His last album Adios is out now. I shall buy a copy later. In the meantime I first heard him on this classic track;

One of the earliest records he played guitar on was 'Tequila' by the Champs (1958 US No: 1; UK No: 5). He was also a session guitarist on records by Nat Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley. In 1965, he deputised for Brian Wilson in The Beach Boys. In 1967, he had minor US hits with 'Gentle on My Mind' and 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix'. In1969, he had his big hits, 'Wichita Lineman' (US No: 3; UK No: 7) and 'Galveston' (US No: 4; UK No: 14), and his duet with Bobbie Gentry, "All I Have to Do is Dream" (US No; 27; UK No: 3). After 1971 the hits dried up for a while, but he came back in 1975 with 'Rhinestone Cowboy' and in 1977 with 'Southern Nights'.

R.I.P.

I saw Glen Campbell on stage in Manchester back in the 70's.

I did Pete, but a lot of it is rather vague now. I went with a friend of mine. :)

I remember Witchita Linesman very well. I also remember his part in True Grit with John Wayne.
A sad loss.

His most famous songs were before my time, but I grew up often hearing them on "classic hits" radio — I've always especially loved Wichita Lineman and By the Time I Get to Phoenix. RIP Glen Campbell.

Watched his 2014 movie - I Am Me - only a few months ago. It dealt with his decline due to Alzheimer's and was very sad. Also sad as I have a Dad who's getting old too :(

Wasn't necessarily a big fan of his own music (I do like Galveston & Witchita Lineman) but am a big fan of many of the 60s pop classics he played on as part of the 'Wrecking Crew'.

RIP Glen!
