Here's another one:

What runs but never walks, has a mouth but never talks?
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I know but won't say

Two fathers and two sons go out for the day fishing. At the end of the day they have caught three fish, enough for them all to have one each. How is this possible?

I think both versions are right. Since a viper and an adder are two names for the same thing, if it is the same snake, then she can vipe 'er nose because she add 'er handkerchief, but if it isn't the same one, she can't because some other snake has misappropriated it. :)

Probably a grass snake informed on her.

Hmm... perhaps (says she doubtfully!) But I like the grass snake idea!

Here's another:

What four letter word can be written forward, backward or upside down, and can still be read from left to right?
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

As no one has offered an answer, I'll provide it:

Now that I've seen the answer the upside down bit makes sense.
