I think some of you might be missing out in not bothering with Facebook. I run three public pages, The Enid Blyton Society and two local schools that I attended as a child (one is now demolished and the other renames many years ago). The latter two are not very active, but act as a useful tool to discuss former teachers and/or pupils.

I also 'follow' several railway pages and radio ones, too. For me, I have no interest in knowing that 'Amelia' is getting drunk or much of the other trivia that appears. Anyone who irritates me I 'unfollow' - although remain 'friends'. I keep up to date with authors that I enjoy as well.

Trouble is, it's all the stuff you get, that you don't want to see, too, as well as seeing people you don't even know! :|

I quite enjoy seeing people I don't know, connected to people I do know usually though. ;-) But then, I'm a very nosy person. :D

Try search #enidblyton in Instagram, you'll see how many souls still enjoy the stories of young adventures in this millennium.

They have started showing page adverts which is irritating. However, as I said, if any 'real' person irritates me, they get hidden.

This is a long thread title - maybe Social Media would be better?

Generally I steer clear of Facebook and use old school websites messaging and where I do know them, emailing for specific topics. I do use Tumblr but although its privacy settings are actually rather good (aren't altered for you as part of new extra service!) I do find some people clearly have no idea of what a 'safe for work' post is and some peoples idea of what everyday hashtags are really for makes the mind boggle!
Equally I can write "No nsfw/18+ interaction thank you" on mine and yes, they cannot read!

I was wondering whether to change it the other day but I didn't have time to give it much thought. I think it's useful to keep key words like "Facebook" and "Twitter" in the title but I've now shortened it a little.

I find that hashtags get irritating if they are more than one line long. Also, what so and so ate for breakfast, or his new haircut, etc hold no interest for me at all. But I've pretty much worked on my settings and been specific about who to follow, resulting in a very good display on my wall, so I quite enjoy it.
I only joined Instagram to follow some Kabaddi players, so I don't use it much for networking, but It's a well organized site with much less clutter than Facebook.

I just recheck the hashtag in Instagram and some thing interesting occurred. There are a large number of posts keep coming from Indonesian users (my home country). Enid blyton still have a large number of readers in there, hypothetically...

EB is also very popular in India, I'm glad to say. Maybe because it's a conservative place, so parents prefer their kids to read cleaner books. Coz later on kids are gonna read what they want, so the younger ones get Eb, I guess.

I will never use any medium that artificially, arbitrarily limits posts by character count.
I do actually have a Twitter account, but it is totally inactive and I never do anything with it. I think it started just because, when the fuss started, I looked to see what the fuss was about and found I had to create an account before I could even find out anything.
Not that I found out anything of the slightest use or interest to me. Most useless thing ever, as far as I can see - just one of the noxious, grubby sewers of the Internet, it looks to me, where all the nameless crawling, wriggling things of the Internet teem and feel at home as they prey upon each other and on anyone they disagree with.
I find it a bit alarming that a current world leader seems to use it as one of his principal means of communication.

Regards, Michael Edwards.

What a brilliant - and very accurate - description! :D

Thank you, Rob; I'm glad you liked it.
And when one of our world leaders places such reliance upon it, one can only draw certain conclusions about the degree to which he feels at home there - at least in the absence of any evidence to the contrary.
It would not be the only way in which he starkly contrasts with his predecessor.

I don't do Twitter, but I do have two Facebook pages. One for myself, which is very closely guarded, and one for my own published book, and how things are progressing etc. I guess it's a case of you have to move with the times if you want anything to sell etc. :)
