We indeed had a lovely afternoon at church yesterday and still have more ahead of us today visiting my son-in-law & family .

I was just reading the news online this morning and came across something lovely — beautiful photos of the National Trust's selection of their best festive walks: The 12 Walks of Christmas

Couldn't help noticing that Corfe Castle is among them — with the inevitable remark that it's "thought to have been the inspiration" for Enid Blyton's Kirrin Castle! But hey, any positive mention of Enid's name is good to see.

Here are further details of the walks on the National Trust's website for anyone who's interested. I'd love to go on some of them, but most of them aren't within easy reach of where I live. But I could always earmark them for future trips...

I've walked around Lyme Park, Derwentwater, Mam Tor and Corfe Castle but my favourite of these is Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden near Ripon. The view from the water garden with the Abbey in the background is stunning, particularly in Autumn when the leaves on the trees turn gold, red and brown and are reflected in the water.

Oh yes! A great description of Fountains Abbey, John! It is definitely a stunning place. I've only been once, but it left a lasting impression on me.
Interestingly, the ruined Abbey appears extensively in 'OMD's Maid of Orleans (Joan of Arc)' music video!
