Ooh, you know, I think someone mentioned The Hidden Hut before, as it sounds familiar... have you been there before, Pete? I wish I'd remembered it when I was in Cornwall — I might have driven over there. I visited St Mawes at one stage (last year, I think it was).

I would also love to be in Cornwall for Christmas, but that's how I feel at just about any time! I'm in love with the place. Will probably retire there one day, but I'm a long way off retiring yet!!

That's a lovely part of the coast, Pete. We often walk along the cliff around there. In fact, we have walked along most of the cliff paths in Cornwall over the years we've lived here.

We don't live too far away from St Mawes and Porthscatho, so I guess most people would envy us that.

We prefer the beach and café at Poldhu Cove. We have spent many hours on this beach. A wonderful place.

Why do you think of Courtenay when you look at the picture on your landing, Nigel? Do you think Courtenay looks like the fisherman!

I've not explored much of Cornwall at all. I must change that in the near future. Lovely photos from Pete & Moonraker. They really look so inviting!

Ever found any doubloons?
They're known to wash up at Poldhu and Gunwalloe nearby, as a galleon carrying tons of gold and silver was wrecked near Gunwalloe and the treasure is still there somewhere.

Arrrrr, me hearties, I agree! I was near Poldhu during one of my trips to Cornwall in the past year or two, but didn't quite get there (and didn't find any doubloons, either). It's also famous as the spot where Marconi sent the first trans-Atlantic wireless signal, so it's pretty important in the history of communications technology.

Glad you think so, Nigel. For those who may not know, that's Mowzer from The Mousehole Cat, a lovely picture book (by Antonia Barber and Nicola Bayley) retelling the legend of an old fisherman from Mousehole, near Penzance, who braves a terrible storm in a bid to catch enough fish to save the starving villagers. I think Mowzer was the author's addition to the traditional tale, but it is all the more charming told from a cat's point of view!

Tonight (23 December) happens to be Tom Bawcock's Eve, the annual festival in Mousehole that celebrates the same story, so I've just been watching the cute little animated version of The Mousehole Cat — probably others here will know it, as I'm sure it must have been shown on TV around this time in past years, but I only discovered it a year or two ago. A lovely Christmas tribute to one of my favourite villages in my favourite county in Britain.

Mousehole is also lit up by Christmas lights at this time of the year. We've been many times, it's great.

Yes, I'd love to go and see that one day too. There's real footage of the Mousehole Lights celebration at the end of the film I posted before. I see they're doing a stage play of The Mousehole Cat as well!
