Peter Vaughan, probably best known, for playing the role of Harry Grout, in the classic sitcom Porridge, has sadly died, aged 93.

Another memorable Peter Vaughan role, was Mr Paxton, in the 1972 BBC version, of the classic M.R. James, Ghost story, A Warning to the Curious.

I have got many of Peter Vaughan's, film and TV appearances, on DVD.

Sad news. He was great as Harry Grout in Porridge. RIP Peter Vaughan.

I loved his character 'Charlie Johnson', the grumpy dad of Shirley in the 70's sit-com Citizen Smith. Loved his constant battle with his daughter's boyfriend Wolfie Smith (Robert Lindsey).. the Tooting popular fronts revolutionary leader! R.I.P. Mr Vaughan. Thanks for the memories.

He was always a good actor. I first became aware of him in ITV's 1962 adaptation of Constantine Fitzgibbon's "When the Kissing Had to Stop", in which he played the (fictitious) Soviet leader, Nikitin. He also starred as Chief Superintendent Craddock in the 1969 ITV series, "The Gold Robbers", (available on DVD). He Played many other roles, including that of Wolfie's girlfriend's father in the first series of "Citizen Smith". I particularly liked him in the BBC TV and radio productions of Alan Ayckbourne's "Seasons Greetings", in which he starred as Harvey.
He'll be greatly missed.

He also appeared in Game of Thrones. But it was as "Grouty" in Porridge that I first knew him and he was excellent in that role. RIP.

2016 has taken a very heavy toll of our entertainers.

I remember him playing the father to Anthony Hopkins character in the film Remains Of The Day. He was excellent as Grouty though.
