Puffin Webcam, Burhou Island

Split from another topic as I think it will benefit from having a dedicated thread.

Hi all,

I just received the answer from the Burhou Puffin Webcam and according to them the two webcams work perfectly fine, but all I get is a black screen with a tiny white triangle. When I click on that triangle, nothing happens at all.
Maybe something interferes to check the puffin cam from outside of Europe now?

Using your link Chrissie, takes me right to the screen which I can activate and it is working. I can see the waves breaking on the shore but not a sign of the puffins yet. I hope they haven't turned camera shy. :)

It seems to be working fine here in the UK Chrissie so I guess the problem is at your end somehow. It might not be because you live abroad though. Maybe you just need a software update, or to change your computer settings?

Hi Walter and Daisy, thanks for checking the puffin cam.
I guess the problem is on our end and will ask my husband to check it out when he'll be back later.
Last year I could at least see it once in a while, but this year it was not working in March or April so far.

It's definitely working for me too, though still no sign of puffins or any other creatures - just a lot of white markers with numbers on them. Are they nesting site numbers put up by a puffin real estate agent?? :P

Working fine for me, too. But not seen a Puffin. I hope John doesn't see his thread!

I've seen it. The camera is working perfectly just now and there are a few gulls to be seen. The puffins should be back any time now.

It's working finally :)!!!
My wonderful husband figured out in no time at all that all I needed was the newest Adobe Flash Player download (I had refused the download when Adobe was pestering me with reminders a few weeks ago) and after André had downloaded it for me, I was able to see Burhou Island at night in the rain. André even saw the humungous rabbit with his eyes gleaming he said. I have a screenshot, but don't know how to put it into this field without joining Photo Bucket.
Over the next few days I'll most likely watch the Puffin Cam for hours without end. From last year I remember that the puffins are usually very active between 12 noontime and 1 p.m. (5 p.m. to 6 p.m. British time). That's when they hop the closest to the web cam :).
Life is good :D :D :D !!!

Anita just created this extra thread, so I only write a few words now in order to receive messages in my inbox whenever new posts have arrived.
Thank you all for your interest for this puffin cam thread :)!
I'm soooo excited that now I can watch Huffin' & Puffin' again...

I will certainly be watching this web cam when I am not watching grass grow or paint dry.

Ooh, I saw a puffin there just now! It was fairly far in the distance, but it was definitely a puffin. At least, it was black and white and moved about, so it was either a puffin or a very lost penguin. :P

André discovered the large rabbit last night and I watched a seagull this afternoon, but no puffins yet. Do they really have penguins in Europe? :o

The numbered signs on the island are essential. Several puffins were returning home late at night slightly the worse for drink and inadvertently trespassing into some other puffin's burrows. Now, the puffins can identify their burrow by its own personal number.

No, they don't - that's why I said it must have been a very lost penguin!!
