I wonder if it will spread as far as the South West!
I love a good old storm as long as I can be indoors and watch it from the warm, but I feel really sorry for all the animals outdoors that are caught in it!

I wasn;t sure whether to go out today and get a few bits of grocery that I need, or whether to leave it til the weekend, but you've made my mind up for me now Flora, hehe, I think I'd better go today and make sure of them!

Well it's battering down where I am, quite windy too.

Got soaked taking the boys to school, had to hang up my jeans and hoody to dry, went back out and got soaked before I even got back to the school. So glad I keep spare things at my cousins house, my clothes are hanging over the radiators now, thought it's probably pointless as I've got to walk home again later.

Let's hope it might ease for when you have to walk home!

It's very very windy here too, blowing a right gale!
I don't mind gales if it's sunny, and I can just about tolerate the rain as long as it's not windy, but when it's rainy and windy at the same time it's unbearable because you can't put a brolly up!

Well it's still going and I finish in about half an hour so fingers crossed.

I remember the 1987 storm very well - we lived in Hastings where several people were killed. All the roads were blocked by fallen trees and many buildings were damaged. Let's hope that the Sunday night event is not as severe.

I don't remember it too much as I was only about 6 at the time but I do know that my aunt and uncle in Sussex had their whole roof blown completely away. They lived right on the clifftop and their back garden was the actual cliff so they really bore the brunt of the sea gales!

Hope I saved you a drenching or two Carlotta ! We sometimes wonder if the Met Office now exaggerate and awfulize potential weather warnings a bit after poor old Michael Fish's gaffe all those years ago, but we're never ones to argue with gales or floods!

Ah, a previous neighbour!, we're along the coast a bit Francis at Bexhill. As you can imagine there's a siege mentality here following the forecast, it does get a tad breezy here on the seafront! We lived in Harrow in 1987 and couldn't get off the hill for fallen trees and wrecked cars, as you say lets hope there's not such a severe replay to come.

I too wonder if things are exaggerated somewhat, everything seems to be these days, like when there's an outbreak of swine flu or some other nasty livestock disease, or some epidemic of a bug - the nation goes on alert and everything is 'critical' and then all of a sudden it all just disappears into nowhere and we don't hear any more about it! I remember when there was the huge epidemic of foot and mouth disease - every farm had disinfected straw at the gate, there was national panic etc etc, then it all just melted away into nothing.

Perhaps they do exaggerate the weather slightly to make sure people take heed and prepare, but then again the gales suddenly blew my windows shut with such a force just now that I'm surprised the glass didn't break, so there is definitely some sort of weather brewing out there

Yes thanks Flora, the rain kindly went down to a mild drizzle for the miles walk down the road!

It was consistent heavy rain this morning until at dinner time the sun came out and ever since, it's been really warm! Looks bad for Sunday and Monday. Luckily we don't have anything planned, but my Uncle is going on holiday on Monday morning in a caravan!

Crikey I've just looked at the forecast and there are going to be 35mph gales in Devon in the early hours of Monday!

Poppy I hope the winds aren't as bad as that where your Uncle is - that would be so frightening taking a caravan out in that

I've just looked out the window to see clear skies too! Maybe the worst of it over, the forecast suggests the weekend will just be cloudy mostly.
