Also Happy Birthday for yesterday Poppy! I hope you had a nice time and wish all the best for the new year!

By the way yesterday was the "feast" for Saint Léonie Aviat, the founder of the sisters where I learnt French...

Red ink always reminds me of teachers' remarks in my school work! Usually, "See me"!

Ooer, yes, my (Australian equivalent of) A-level English teacher used to do that. Pickiest teacher I ever had. Every single student would get their work back covered in red annotations, alterations and occasional outright condemnations. I used to count myself lucky I never got her dreaded red NO with the double underline!! But she had a good heart, really, and we were quite friendly by the time I finished school.

Anyway — to try to get this hijacked birthday thread back on topic — I should think Floragord's celebratory red ink is especially appropriate for someone called Poppy!

Just to take this topic even further off topic, I believe teachers nowadays are encouraged not to use red ink, as it sends the child a bad message about its work...another politically correct farce! Children can apparently be scarred for life from reading comments in red ink, so green is encouraged as a calming colour...and no words like 'see me!!' are allowed. At least, this is what I was taught when doing teacher training in the mid 2000's. We were also encouraged not to put a cross by any answers - just give the correct answer and only use ticks, not crosses.

I remember having 'see me!' written on a few of my pages, and also 'date!!??' if I forgot the date. Also 'this is not good enough!!'.
