Wasn't Dick Turpin about six or seven different people, lol?! ;-)

I was surprised to learn that John Peel (as in 'D'ye ken John peel') was real. We saw his grave when on holiday in Cumbria. 8)

Dick Turpin was a highway man. He was hung, drawn and quartered for his crimes. Some of the stories about him are exaggerated, but he did exist.

yes - he operated around York, of course. :-D Highwaymen have always fascinated me. :D he was actually hung for horse theft in the end, then legends sprang up about him after his death, so its not entirely certain what crimes he committed and what feats he accomplished!

He didn't ever get entangled in anything like this, did he... (Obviously not, since he met his death by hanging, but any excuse for a bit of epic poetry. 8) )

Just to be correct, Dick Turpin was not hung, drawn and quartered, a particularly nasty punishment which involved the victim being hung (more correctly, hanged) by the neck until almost dead, then disembowelled and finally cut into four pieces. As Rob has said, Turpin was hanged on the gallows for horse theft rather than highway robbery (though no-one doubts that he was indeed a highwayman).

Yes, sorry he was hanged only. The guide told us all about Guy Fawkes too, and I was getting the two punishments mixed up. Age thing I'm afraid.

You're doing better than me - I thought Dick Parsnip was a fictional character!

We are very worried about André's dad who is at the 2nd hospital now since Monday with a possible heart attack. The first hospital released him after one night on Tuesday morning (echo cardiogram and stress test showed no signs of a heart attack), because 6 people were waiting for a hospital bed.

Yesterday he woke up feeling dizzy again and had tremendous neck pain and back of his head pain, so my youngest sister-in-law and my belle-mère did bring him to a larger hospital where they did a CT scan and an MRI. So far we haven't heard of the results.
We were so worried that we both couldn't sleep last night...

Please keep him in your prayers!
