Re: What Are You Doing Now?
Isn't all that a bit mean! What would Enid say?
If there is something I really want, I bid in £1's. If it gets above my limit I stop. I've just bought two 1965 annuals, which I remember in early teens, Diana and Bunty. I got the Diana for 99p and Bunty sadly went up to £3, but as both have in tact jackets, I guess the deal is a good one.

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
It's not really mean, as I would happily pay £20 for each item I bid on - its just raising the price for the seller, if others wish to bid against me. Its not like I don't intend to honour the £20 if I win!Julie2owlsdene wrote:Isn't all that a bit mean! What would Enid say?

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
Why would you want to raise the price for the seller, Rob. Have you got shares in everyone who sells on Ebay.
Personally I'd prefer to pay the least price, not the highest.

Nice to hear about your new home, Floragord — sounds like a very Blytonesque location, look you, whateffer!floragord wrote:Move safely negotiated, greetings all from wonderful Pembrokeshire! It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
Because as a fellow seller, I feel that when a bid starts at £1.99 I don't think a dealer (that's obviously who was bidding against me, as they only seem to bid on books and silverware and they bid on maybe 20 things a day) should get a book for £1.99 and sell it for £50.Julie2owlsdene wrote:Why would you want to raise the price for the seller, Rob. Personally I'd prefer to pay the least price, not the highest.
I've also written to the man who is selling these books - he's selling his mother's collection of over 450 books) and he's a nice person, so why shouldn't I help him to get the best price for his books?
Once a book goes over £10, for me its not really worth buying, unless I want to keep it for my own collection, as I'm usually aiming to sell the books I buy and it wouldn't make a profit if I bought all my books for £20 +
So, once the person bidding against me gets to £20 which is my absolute limit, I let them win. The person has now bid on six books all to the value of about £23.00 so they must have money to burn. Why shouldn't they pay a little more than they intended? I didn't force them to bid against me after all!

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
I was one of the bidders on a few of his books, but sadly they went out of my price range.
I asked him about Banshee Towers too - but it was clear that would also be more than I could pay.
Still I'm sure there are bargains out there!

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
The pity of it is, as far as I can see, most of his books have been bid on by a dealer (I'm sure not many Blyton fans would be happy to bid over £20 each on six or seven books!)
He has some really nice books and they are in excellent condition, so its no wonder they attract bids. If someone is bidding on a book and just one or two, then I usually don't bid against them, but this bidder was bidding and bidding on several at once - obviously they have no upper limit, lol!
Even a copy of 'The Hidey-hole' is now around £13.50 - I bought a better copy than the one I currently have for only £4.99 - so this constant bidding isn't always a wise move!

I'm afraid I'm totally lost on that one, Rob. Luckily I don't go on Ebay much, it sounds rather complex to me now!

Yes - I'd forgotten that! It seems that people with big money are waiting to pounce on all his books!

Pembrokeshire is one of the loveliest places in Wales, in my opinion - Manorbier castle being one of the most beautiful and best-sited castles. Which castle are you near to?floragord wrote:Move safely negotiated, greetings all from wonderful Pembrokeshire!
