I know that mince pies are a staple during the festive season, but I think they are overrated. I can take them or leave them. What do others think?

Being honest Eddie - we take them, have far too many in our excitement, and then we leave them - and do the same thing again twelve months later!

I think they're overrated too, Eddie. I don't mind having an occasional mince pie, but when it comes to Christmas goodies I much prefer Bramley apple pies.

I love mince pies, hot or cold, with custard, or on their own - but we only ever eat them around Christmas - never buy them all year. The bramley apple pies are something we might buy at any time, so I don't really find them all that thrilling!

It makes me wonder who actually does buy mincepies and eats them and likes them, lol! Seems like most people buy them 'because its Christmas' but then don't actually eat them! I prefer them to Christmas pudding I think.

Eddie, Pete and Rob, I never had a mince pie nor did I ever eat a fruit cake which has kind of a weird reputation over here in the US (and I have not yet found out why ).

I think you're right about mince pies, Rob. I feel sure that most people only buy them because it's Christmas and it's expected of them.

We get through boxes of them at Christmas, but we don't eat them at any other time of the year. A bit like turkey! We love our Christmas tree, too, but only put it up at Christmas.

Americans don't really know how to make fruitcake, so our fruitcake is usually pretty bad. That's why in America fruitcake has a bad reputation.
