Perhaps he was waiting for her by the Cathedral, and she didn't turn up, but if the bells had rung she might have had an attack of conscience...
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

Perhaps. Or are we reading too much into it?? (I guess I'm just still a little baffled as to how a cathedral could logically be blamed for a failed romance. But then, what do I know? )

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

It’s poetry - full of metaphors. To me he is saying, if they had gotten married (if the bells had rung), they would not have drifted apart, because their future would be together. Yes, in metaphors cathedrals can think and have intentions, like all those castles that frown down on Enid Blyton characters!

Yeah, but it's still hardly the cathedral's fault that she didn't say yes.

Actually, it just might be, being the house of that greatest of all metaphors which control our fate.

Now there's a thought — gosh, who would have reckoned this song could be that profound...

Chick and I have been to see Buddy: the Buddy Holly Story at the Theatre Royal, Brighton. We have seen it several times before, but it is such a great show and well worth seeing again and again.
On the way out of the theatre, we booked tickets for the evening performance of Halfway To Paradise: The Billy Fury Story on 23rd June. It is another show that we've seen a number of times, but another that is worth repeating.

Glad you both enjoyed yourselves, Eddie! No doubt you'll be rocking in the ailses on the 23rd! I must admit, Brighton does attract some cracking shows.

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
I'm wondering if I should order this new book on Corfe as it has no reviews yet:

Did any of the forumites read it yet?
And what do you think about it?

I'll check it again in a few weeks, Eddie.
Maybe some Corfe fans will order it and post a review.

Great shows Eddie.
