Two years ago when I went to Peru, we met this man that kept these two *nice, cute* tarantulas as pets. And his daughter who was just 3, she wasn't a bit scared of them but told us her pets were quite shy. I literally nearly screamed the whole restaurant down when I saw them and he even asked us if we wanted to hold them!!
This was one of my worst experiences with spiders...
You only nearly screamed the place down?! I wouldn't have been able to even go in if I knew they were in there and if I'd caught sight of them I'm quite certain I'd have needed resuscitating!
Many years ago a cousin of mine bought back a stuffed tarantula from his visit to South America, which as he lived over a hundred miles away was fine. A few years back though when my aunt died we went to their house and all I could think of was this thing might be in a glass case on some table top. I felt terrible, I was meant to be there to comfort my uncle and all I could do was sit there desperately trying not to think of what might be in the room with me (it didn't work) and even more desperately trying not to glance anywhere for fear of spotting it, as the last thing a grieving man wants is a commotion, which he'd have got for sure if I had done. It was absolutely awful, I've never been so uncomfortable in a house in my life .

Closing the door of our gateway I saw that one of the young swallows was no longer in its nest but down on the floor. We don't know if the parents removed it from its nest or if it simply fell down, but we'll see whether they'll keep caring for it or not. In our neighbourhood there are hardly any cats around, rather squirells, so chances are not too bad it'll survive if its parents will support it.

Re: General Natter Room
There's been a bit of excitement in my town this week, a tv crew have been here filming on location for a new 6 part BBC Netflix show. It's set in south wales but apparently the makers prefer the look and backdrop of the buildings up here instead. At least it was hot and sunny for them while they were here, it turned to torrential rain the day after they'd gone but not many people get such perfect timing with the weather around here, they were unbelievably fortunate!!

I really hope your Swallows pull through, Wolfgang! The young can leave the nest prematurely, so I'm hoping the Gods are with them & they'll survive! Let us know how they get on.Wolfgang wrote:Closing the door of our gateway I saw that one of the young swallows was no longer in its nest but down on the floor. So far it's still alive and trying to hide next to the box on which our mail, magazines and newspaper are supposed to land when they're delivered.
Two or three you swallows are still in the nest.

Acoording to my parents they wanted to set a bowl of water close the young swallow, when it suddenly flew away and landed on a wall, where one of its parents landed as well. So everything seems all right with that young one.

Oh, good — that's nice to know the young one can fly and the parents are still looking after it.
