I too miss the E.B Days. The get together of even speaking to other members that you didn't know, (not from the forums) was nice, as we all had something in common, Enid Blyton. The book stalls were great to look at, even though some books were out of my price league. But it was the Blyton Community that really made those days special.

And of course the picnic of forumites after the meetings was the icing on the cake. :D

I'm glad I went to the few that I did as they'll always remain special to me. :D

I feel exactly the same Julie. They were great days which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm still wishing I could have made it to one, but I either wasn't living in the UK or didn't know about the Society back then... I'm very grateful, though, to have met at least a couple of EBS members and their spouses and found them to be lovely people and good friends. I would love to meet more people from here, even if not at a full-on Enid Blyton Day — I live in hope that there might be another informal meet-up some time that I can get to. (We've had a couple since I joined, but they've been at times when I couldn't make it.)

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Like others I have made some very valuable friendships through these forums. My only regret at the moment is that we do not seem to manage many gatherings in person these days. Like Nigel I really miss the annual excitement of the old EBS Day. Sadly I doubt it can ever come back. But I still love to come on here each day and see what everyone is up to and what they are nattering about.
Thank you for the lovely compliment, John. :D

For me, the Enid Blyton Day was one of the highlights of the year. It was great meeting up with so many valued friends and like minded people. Like you, John, I really miss the excitement of those great days.

Anita Bensoussane wrote:I think it was Norman Wright who first connected Kirrin Castle with Corfe (other than the 1957 adaptation of Five on a Treasure Island) when he wrote in Journal 1, 1996 (if I remember correctly) that he had always imagined Kirrin Castle to look like Corfe Castle and was pleased to see from a letter in Teachers World that Enid Blyton had visited Corfe Castle.
I see isleofpurbeck.com seem to have got it right!
For the stories, "Kirrin Castle" is popularly believed to be based on Corfe Castle. However, further to the publication of one of her letters (1962) it seems the inspiration may have came from one of the smaller Channel Islands which she would have seen on her honeymoon. It has to be said that parts of her descriptions could be from either, bearing in mind she first visited Corfe in 1931. In part of the letter she wrote:
.....It was an island I once visited several times when I was
was in Jersey it lay off the coast and could only be reached
either by boat or by a rocky path exposed when the tide was
out. It had an old castle there and I longed to put the
island and castle into a book. So I did, as you know!.....
I did search for a dedicated thread on this subject, but this was the pone that came up!

Sadly the Ginger Pop shop is no more, even though there is a link in the article.

Great article Nigel, thank you.
I particularly like the photo with a young fan. Even on holidays (when she must have needed a rest after the extreme long hours she worked) she was available to her fans. I have several of her letters which she has written from the hotel (on their letterhead) replying to children's letters. She was so successful she didn't need to reply to those letters but of course she did. She never really had a break. Amazing wonderful woman.

cheers

I recently posted a comment regarding a F5 novel that Zoe (George@Kirrin) was going to write. After contacting Zoe again to confirm this, She has told me that it's a F5 type book that she's writing, NOT a novel. I wish her well in her quest &, hopefully, she'll get it printed in the near future! I look forward to reading it. Sorry for going off-topic. :D

Thanks for the info, number 6. I wonder if it's about the Famous Five, a sort of - Everything You Wanted To Know - type of book?

Oh! I never thought to ask, Julie! Knowing Zoe, though, I'm sure it'll be a proper F5 type adventure! :D

An F5 type book could be about a different set of children having an FF type adventure, in which case it would be publishable as no copyright problems would occur. Just a thought.

This is true, Daisy. But number 6 said it's not a novel. So I wondered if it was a book of information. :)

Yes, that's a possibility Julie. I wonder how much more information is out there waiting to be discovered!
