Gene Krupa - Bolero at the Savoy
https://www.dropshots.com/Domino43/date ... 1/21:55:02" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Gene Krupa was the drummer with Benny Goodman's band until 1938, when after a series of musical disagreements, Krupa left and formed his own band.
Irene Daye was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, in 1918. She followed girl singers, Helen Ward and Jerry Kruger, as resident vocalist with the Krupa Band. She left in 1941, when she married trumpeter, Edward 'Corky' Cornelius (who had left Goodman's band with Krupa). Cornelius died of kidney failure in 1943. She sang with Charlie Spivak's band from 1944 until 1950, when she married Spivak and became his manager until she died in 1971.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Wonderful Dave. I too enjoyed that immensely.

Eddie and John (LS), glad you enjoyed the Gene Krupa track, "Bolero at the Savoy". I've just discovered, by doing a bit of research, that Krupa recorded that song again in 1942, with a vocal by Anita O'Day, who was hired as vocalist after Irene Daye left. It still didn't make the charts, though.

Les Brown and his Orchestra- I Got the Sun in the Morning
https://www.dropshots.com/Domino43/date ... 6/16:33:15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Lester Raymond Brown was born in Reinerton, Pennsylvania, in 1912. Whilst studying at Duke University, North Carolina, 1932-1936, he joined the college band, The Blue Devils, and in 1933 became its leader. In 1938 he formed his own orchestra. His first US No: 1 was in 1945 with "Sentimental Journey" (Doris Day on vocal). From 1949 he was billed as 'Les Brown and his Band of Renown'. He died in 2001.
I have explained previously how Doris was persuaded to re-join the orchestra as vocalist in 1944, having briefly sung with it in 1941.
This song was written by Irving Berlin and came from the musical, "Annie, Get Your Gun".

A great sound, Dave. I love the soundtrack for Annie Get Your Gun. Catchy music and clever lyrics. One of my favourite songs is Bad, Bad Man:

I like Wild Child too, Number 6. I bought the album it was on (A Day Without Rain) back when I was living in Brisbane 15 years ago and listened to it a lot, so it brings back lots of happy memories.
Here's another very relaxing one they played on Classic FM yesterday as I was driving home from Norfolk (not into the sunset at the time, mind you): Ludovico Einaudi — Two Sunsets

Re: Last Song You Listened To
Brilliant! And Hayley herself is from New Zealand, the land of hobbits and elves and dragons... well, if the films are to be believed, anyway. (I have an auntie back in Australia who went on holiday in NZ and visited the location where they filmed the Shire. She seemed oddly disappointed that there wasn't a real hobbit village there after all. )
