I was only a child in the late 70s and didn't know one genre from the other, but I remember a few songs of the time that would be considered Disco.

One of the very first songs I can recollect is this little gem from Spain...

Ah, that had a revival in 1996 when it was the theme song for Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet (which had an ultra-modern city underworld setting but retained all of Shakespeare's original wording... which, strangely enough, somehow worked). We decided to go and see it at the cinema on an incredibly hot day in Melbourne in order to get into some air conditioned comfort... only to find, when we got to the cinema, that the air conditioning had broken down. So we sweltered through the entire movie and I dimly remember it being reasonably impressive, but I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't been almost stifling in the heat!! :lol:

Anyway, on that note (pardon the pun), here's my favourite musical evocation of a burningly hot summer's day (the first movement in particular): Vivaldi's Summer Concerto I've been getting it stuck in my head a lot lately, although not nearly as often as I used to do during Australian summers... :wink: (My favourite part — in the whole of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, actually — is between 2:15 and 2:55 in this recording, where the solo violinist represents birds' calls in the hot summer air. Absolutely haunting when done well.)

The just-released new deluxe version of Sgt Pepper's LHCB - to commemorate 50 years since first being released. Incredible - especially listening through headphones.

Why is it hard to believe? Disco songs are so catchy and fun!

I love Vivaldi's Four Seasons too, Courtenay.

Going back to disco, Pete, let's not forget this one.

Maxine Nightingale - Right Back Where We Started From

https://www.dropshots.com/Domino43/date ... 7/19:20:47" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Maxine was born in Wembley, London, in 1952. She secured a recording contract with Pye and three singles were released in 1969-1971, none of which were successful. She appeared in the West End musical, 'Hair', after which she re-located to West Germany, appearing in 'Jesus Christ Superstar' and 'Godspell' there.
In 1975 she returned to London, where she reluctantly agreed to record this song. It took a lot of persuasion to get her to agree to accept a royalty rather than the standard session fee. The song became a million-seller.

Wouldn't mind hearing it myself! :D My dad has the original on vinyl — it's his favourite Beatles album.
