Last Song You Listened To
Re: Last Song You Listened To
They might have been the first group to feature a cello, but the first chart single would have been Nat King Cole's "When I Fall in Love" (1957 UK No:2; 1987 re-issue UK No:4) which famously started with a lone cello playing the intro, gradually swelling to include the entire Gordon Jenkins Orchestra before he starts singing. Inexplicably, certain compilations, such as "Nat King Cole - The Singles', feature a different version with the full orchestra playing from the start, while purporting to be the original.

The Rockin' Berries - He's in Town
https://www.dropshots.com/Domino43/date ... 7/12:00:00" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They were a Birmingham group originally formed in the late 1950's by Brian 'Chuck' Botfield, and were so named because they played several Chuck Berry numbers. Christine Perfect (later McVie of Fleetwood Mac fame) briefly played keyboards with the group in their early days. Botfield was persuaded to join another local group, but made the condition that they used the name 'The Rockin' Berries'. By 1961, Jimmy Powell was their vocalist. After returning from a season in Germany, they auditioned for Jack Good, who signed Powell as a solo act. The group recorded two unsuccessful records for Decca in 1963. They then signed a contract with Pye and, at the suggestion of American producer, Kim Fowley, recorded 'He's in Town', which became their biggest hit.

Gosh, I haven't heard that song for years (and had forgotten what it was called) — thanks for sharing, Hayleymoomin.Hayleymoomin wrote:Kiki (honestly!!!!) Dee's version of Amourese

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I never knew the title of that song so my experience was similar to Courtenay's, Hayley. I clicked on your link to see what it was and was pleased to find a song that I know and like a lot, but that I hadn't heard for a while.

Re: Last Song You Listened To
Dunno... they used to play it now and then on at least a couple of "easy listening / classic hits" radio stations back in Australia, where I come from. Just looked it up on Wikipedia and it seems it reached #12 on the charts in Australia in 1974 (bit before my time!), which is probably why we still hear it fairly often.Hayleymoomin wrote:I've long wondered why it's never really played on the radio or on tv....its a fantastic moving song but you never ever hear it unless you are a bit of a closet kiki fan!!

I have to admit that I can't remember having ever heard that song. The only times I ever heard Kiki Dee (I'm aware of) was the CD "Freudiana".Courtenay wrote:Gosh, I haven't heard that song for years (and had forgotten what it was called) — thanks for sharing, Hayleymoomin.Hayleymoomin wrote:Kiki (honestly!!!!) Re: Last Song You Listened To
Kiki Dee's possibly most famous moment was her 1976 duet with Elton John; Don't go Breaking' my Heart.

Yes, that's a song I heard previously. Watching the beginning of the video I wondered what Sue Best and Michael Hinz are doing there for some seconds... until I realized it's Elton John and Kiki Dee.
