Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes. One of the nicest things about having moved to the UK is that my birthday is now in the spring, rather than autumn, and April has got to be one of the loveliest months in the British calendar, especially with all the bluebells coming out — and now the rhododendrons starting as well. :D :D :D (Yes, we do grow rhododendrons and azaleas in Australia too, but they flower in November!! I don't think we have bluebells at all.)

Courtenay, according to several British travel guides which I've read in the past, the month of May is supposed to have the least amount of rainy days. And it's true, I experienced it on several UK trips.

Sorry I missed your birthday, Courtenay, but I did see a fantastic display of bluebells this year in the Surrey Hills - it must have been in your honour.

Aw, thanks, Francis. :D Where abouts were the bluebells? I saw quite a lot of them this year too.

They were near St Martha's - a church in the Surrey hills and a very beautiful area. The bluebells were quite outstanding - a complete carpet that wound its way through the woods. I think it was the best I have ever seen. The Surrey Hills is a very lovely unspoilt area adjacent to the North Downs.
