More news about the building work and the garden. Bobs paves the way for his first book of letters, Letters from Bobs (published in 1933), when he says, "Really, the things that happen to me would fill a book. I've a good mind to write a book - but Mistress says nobody would buy it if it was printed. It's a pity I'm only a dog, isn't it?"

What a shock for poor old Bobs this week. Mistress was quite wrong though, Bobs' letters filled not one but three books and they were bought in droves by his young fans. I just wish I had the Society reprints but I missed out!

A mystery at Old Thatch this week. I wonder if the old pipe is still buried in the garden? It's quite likely I imagine unless later owners have dug it up. And Eskimo figures on a Christmas cake? That's not allowed any more. A shame really, I think they sound rather jolly.

Lovely letters as usual. Sandy's joke made me groan! Like Enid Blyton, I love the late afternoon sunshine at this time of year - it gives everything a rosy glow.

A Christmas card (with poem) from Bobs and Sandy, more news of the extension and the rockery, and details of Christmas preparations. Gillian is to receive a golliwog and a Noah's Ark. Did Enid Blyton order them from a catalogue, I wonder ("Gillian's Noah's Ark has come and her golliwog, too") or did she go shopping in person but have her purchases delivered?

Can anyone guess what Bobs might be giving to Enid Blyton? It begins with B and ends with E and I thought it was a bone, but Bobs says it isn't. What else could it be? A bar of chocolate? A bangle? A bath cube? A board-game? A busy lizzie? A birdhouse?

A good photo of Bobs and Sandy, that bit of Dog Cottage looks a trifle snug though. I haven't the faintest idea what Bobs' present to Mistress is but his letter this week made me smile. A happy Christmas to all Society members, forumites and readers of the TW letters.

When I was a child (Many Moons ago!) I used to love reading stories like 'One Christmas night' & how everything came right for the likes of Peter. It always gave me a warm glow & the optimism that all would go well in my World as well. :D

A lovely little story this week. My grandson has just contracted chickenpox. He won't be staying in his bedroom, though. In fact, he went to school today!

Cheerful, newsy letters from Enid Blyton and Bobs as always. With Enid having to write her letters some time in advance of publication, preparations for Christmas are still going on at Old Thatch:

I have thoroughly enjoyed the letters, poems, stories and riddles from Enid and Bobs through 1932. And I'm looking forward to 1933. Happy new year to all.

Lovely to read about Enid's Christmas preparations, especially the tree "just big enough for a little girl like Gillian" and the little Christmas cake specially for Gillian, without the currants and nuts she couldn't yet eat safely. (I also notice Enid is no longer always referring to her as Gillian Mary!) Bobs' letter made me laugh as usual.

The riddle-me-ree might be a tough one if it wasn't for the clue in the second-last line...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

No Teachers' World letter yet. I hope Tony hasn't given up on them. For me they are a weekly treat. Please Tony may we have the 1933 letters?

No, I haven't given up, Kate, but when I went to my files on Tuesday night I found that the page for January 4th wasn't actually there, there was simply a poor scan of the uncollected poem, but no letters. Strange, as I do have all the other issues from 1933.

That's a relief Tony, I shall bide my soul in patience until next week. Thank you.

It's a pity we could not read letters from Enid Blyton and Bobs last week. :(
