A lovely letter! I always particularly love Bob's letters - and although I've read them all before in 'Letters From Bobs' etc, they always amuse me. They are mini masterpieces! I love the little touches, like the ducks complaining about the gardener putting glass on the pond, and the fact Sandy ate the carpenter's dinner!

The poem is one I've always liked, too. I have it in The Enid Blyton Poetry Book. :D I must admit, I'm more a fan of Enid's 'real life' poems than those about fairies and pixies etc.
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

A nice enjoyable letter, if a little sad that she only has two of her pigeons left now. A month seems a long time to be inside. I guess when people were ill in those days, they thought the fresh air may harm them, who knows! :)

Lovely letters and a beautiful poem. Yes, it's sad to hear about Enid's pigeons. I hope her remaining two had more babies, or she was able to buy some more — maybe we'll find out in later letters. Perhaps the staying inside was because it was the middle of winter and the doctor thought it would make her worse to be out in the cold weather? I hope she recovered her hearing properly, as well.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

A delightful read as always, but how sad about the pigeons. Like others, I've always thought that 'The Shepherd' is a beautiful poem. It stood out to me when I first read it in The Enid Blyton Poetry Book.

Pigeons are a pest. I borrowed a neighbour's shotgun and got rid of ours. Now all the other birds have come back to the garden.

Interesting! We have two wood pidgeons who regularly come to our garden, plus two collard doves, and also several magpies, Jays and Jackdaws, as well as crows. None of them seem to scare smaller birds away. Maybe our smaller birds are more tough, lol!

I didn't even have to click on the link before I knew what that was... I was right. (It's a favourite in my family as well. No, we've never actually tried anything of the sort... honestly. )

I don't think anyone else in my family would know the song. It's on the DVD Hey, Mr. Producer! The Musical World of Cameron Mackintosh which I picked up a while ago.

Yes - I know the song from that DVD - which I also have. :-)

A joyous letter from Enid this week. She is able to hear again, there are signs of spring everywhere and she and Hugh have moved into the new wing with a sunny bedroom and a study with bookcases built all round the desk. Sounds lovely!

I heard a chaffinch on Sunday for the first time this year. I've never noticed that sparrows cry "Philip! Philip!" so I'll have to listen out for that. They really ought to call "Jack! Jack!" as he's such a bird-lover.

A lovely letter this week full of flowers and birdsong. I've never heard it described so before but House Sparrows do cheep 'philip, philip' and the tit that sings 'if-he, if-he' is a Great Tit, their call is usually written as 'tea-cher, tea-cher' but 'if-he' describes it better.

At long last the new wing is finished and Enid can move in, I would have loved to have run my eye over those hundreds and hundreds of books, but I'm not sure about those mauve curtains.

I can't say I'd be too thrilled to find my hat full of snails (if I wore one). Now did Bobs really do that I wonder?
