The Enid Blyton Society

For the benefit of those who don't look at our Home Page Message Board, I am posting my message here as well.

I am very sad to have to say that Barbara Stoney died on Friday March 6th. Her definitive Biography of Enid Blyton was an inspiration to all who read it, and all subsequent articles on Enid have been taken directly from her meticulous research. She always took a great interest in the Society and attended every Enid Blyton Day. For the last few years she has also been one of our Patrons. On a personal note I will deeply miss a really good friend. I learnt so much from our frequent lengthy phone conversations; she was a mine of information and had a wonderful sense of humour. My thoughts at this sad time are with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

I did read this very sad news on the message board, Tony. I feel very privileged to have met and spoken to her at great length at the last Enid Blyton Day. A wonderful lady, she will be greatly missed by everyone. My sincere condolences go out to her family.

Very sad news indeed. Barbara was a wonderful person to meet at the Enid Blyton Day, always alert and interested in what people had to say. I treasure my well-thumbed copy of Enid Blyton - the Biography - it has taught me such a lot, as have Barbara's Journal articles. Thinking of her family and friends at this sad time.

The news of Barbara Stoney's death is sad indeed. I met her a number of times at the Enid Blyton Day and always enjoyed talking to her. I have four editions of Barbara's Enid Blyton: The Biography: Ithree in paperback and one in hardback. I bought the first one in 1986 and the other three in 1992, 1997 and 2006. It is my 1992 hardback edition which is my most treasured, as this was signed for me by Barbara at Loddon Hall 2006. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family and friends.

This is very sad news. I met Barbara briefly at last year's EB Day and told her how much I treasured my first edition of her biography, which I bought way back in 1974. My condolences to her family.

I was saddened to learn about the death of Barbara Stoney. Her biography on Enid Blyton
(published in three editions) was virtually the ultimate source on Enid Blyton. I have consistently
been borrowing (or checking out as the Americans say) her first edition from my local library
(http://www.flagstaffpubliclibrary.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) for the past four years-non-stop. I also have her third edition of
the book which also have updated information about Enid Blyton. This is a person I would have
liked to meet with regard to more information about Enid Blyton. May she RIP!!!

This is very sad news. Barbara Stoney will be sorely missed by all in the Blyton world for her expertise and vast knowledge. My condolances to her family at this sad time.

Barbara was a great supporter of Ginger Pop, and I have a lovely picture of her sat in my first shop signing books.

She also helped us identify the best locations for picnics after the Blyton days!

Condolences to the family.

I just saw this topic in the new posts list, and kept on muttering, "Don't say Barbara has passed on" but sadly it just turned out to be that. She was a lovely woman and I feel very glad that I've met this brilliant lady once in 2007. On a personal note, she made me feel welcome and broke off the rather stiff exterior I had on when I first entered the Hall. My sincerest condolences to her family.
