Having only half a screen sounds like a nightmare, Eddie. I hope something can be done, or that you're able to get another computer.

Sorry to hear about your woes, Eddie. Actually you reminded me very much of "Michael" just then, except he ALWAYS has a computer problem and is ALWAYS wondering if he'll be able to post again!

It does sound like you need to fork out for a new computer rather than sink money into a new screen.

So sorry to hear about your G5 problems, Eddie.

Mine is sending sympathy vibes to yours across the ether.

I've been a huge Mac fan ever since I came across them in my University Psychology department in the late 80s. Then, they cost £2,500!!

I love listening to Stephen Fry's podcasts, which are often Mac themed.

When my G4 laptop had smoke coming out of it a year ago, it soon descended into an unrepairable burnt-out G4. I was able to at least retain the hard drive as a spare so as I've always got a back-up facility. The Mac re-seller I went to (Microspot) was able to transfer all my data from the burnt-out G4 to my new Macbook Air seamlessly.

Not sure if transferring the old hard-drive info to a new, would be possible for your desktop, but I expect so. Keith would probably know the definitive answer to that :) . Sometimes people buy old Macs for spares as well - often bits popping up on Ebay so maybe all is not lost and you might be able to recoup some money.

Let us know how you get on, won't you?

Helen

Thank you for your kind words, Anita, Keith and Helen. :D I'm using Chick's laptop for this post, but it looks as if I shall have to invest in a new Mac, as my old one would cost too much to put right. Happily Macs are much cheaper than they were in the late 80s, Helen.

Who is "Michael", Keith?

I've bitten the bullet and ordered a new Mac, Helen. It should be with me in about a week's time complete with the latest Photoshop software. It will have a 20" screen and I believe it will be a G7. I'm a bit apprehensive about having a new computer and the process of setting it up and learning how to use it. No doubt I will soon get used to it and feel as comfortable with it as I did with the old one.

Are you going to get all your info transferred across to the new machine?

I'm still trying to puzzle out who "Michael" is, Keith. :?:

Michael posts on the Yahoo Group from time to time, and is known for having terrible computer problems. For personal reasons, he dislikes Microsoft intensely, and often waxes lyrically as to the alternatives. In spite of this, he seems to be 'off-air' more than 'on'. He is an articulate and extremely intelligent man, and has his own booklistings website, although I don't think he has updated it for some time. He is in fact, registered on our Forums as MJE, but unfortunately has never posted - in fact, he last 'looked in' on the 22nd March, last year.

Hi Helen! My new G7 was delivered this morning and it is now up and running and I'm absolutely delighted with it. It has a number of new features plus a 20 inch screen. At the moment I'm like a kid with a new toy! :D
