Re: Website Makeover
If you have a look at the photoes from the EBS day of 2007 you will see that Ming has already made a very good Noddy. So Nigel is definitely relegated to the role of Big Ears.

What a bunch of comedians you all are!
Tony, you might not have read a Noddy all the way through (shame on you), but you have one hell of a lot of Noddy memorabilia!

That just reminded me of the old joke:Moonraker wrote:What a bunch of comedians you all are!
Why do elephants have big ears?
Because Noddy wouldnt pay the ransom!
Sorry!

Maybe I'm being a bit thick, but I never did get this joke. What of it?

Perhaps you would have got it if 'big ears' had been put in capital letters, Ming!

Can't argue with that.....Ming wrote:Maybe I'm being a bit thick..........

Re: Website Makeover
Okay, I get it!!
I was looking through the Cave of Books (sounds magical!) and liked the way books were listed as "Book [1] of [8]". Will it be possible to provide a link to move on the the next book in the series, instead of having to go back one page and selecting the next one?

Re: Website Makeover
Great minds think alike, I have already asked Keith if he can do that, and it is in hand!
Re: Website Makeover
Keith, you've done a marvellous job! The new look is colourful, cosy and... well, I don't know, but the word tangy springs to mind for some reason!
From a technical standpoint, I'm intrigued to see that you've opted for a table-less design, but it all seems to be working magnificently on all of the browsers I've tried it on: IE6, Safari, Chrome, Opera and Firefox. Absolutely rock solid.
I do have one little idea on how to enhance the Cave of Books pages slightly, but I'll expand on that a little later on...
Ian.

Re: Website Makeover
It is still very much a work in progress, Ian, and we welcome any good ideas.
I am currently working on the Secret Series and I have added the first 'cheap' editions to both Island and Spiggy Holes, as well as the wraparound dustwrapper to Moon Castle and the start of the internal illustrations. I think this was the final wraparound needed for the Novels section, but I might have missed something.

Re: Website Makeover
Thanks, Ian, for your compliments -- and especially for checking in all the browsers for me! I've checked too, but even so I find some computers yield different results depending on OS and so on.
Yes, I'm dragging myself kicking and screaming into the 21st Century by trying to use table-less structure. It's not that I can't do it, it just annoys me how sometimes a simple design can take so much fiddling to make it work in all browsers. Internet Explorer can't be blamed for all this; I think the CSS standards could be improved too. I mean, why can't you vertically align text in a DIV by saying vertical-align:middle as you can in a table??
Anyway -- perhaps we should email privately about this stuff!
The "elephant with big ears" joke is very, very old, but the old ones are always the best, eh? I still don't know why the elephant didn't pay the ransom though; after all, the kidnapper made three trunk calls demanding the money. Maybe the elephant just forgot?

Re: Website Makeover
I really love the deep pink background to the pages on the website, missing from the Forum pages. Would it be possible to add it to these pages as well?
