Re: Monthly Quiz
25 this week - but slow as a snail! 4.34 minutes. Then again, I never go for speed, lol. Good job really!

Yep. Anyway, slow or not, you've knocked me down to third place already, Rob!Rob Houghton wrote: After testing out the quiz under the name 'Daisy'? (only joking of course, lol!)

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

No, we're both under Aparna, who got 24 but in a much shorter time than Rob.
I wonder who Georgina's Spanking is... has Dame Slap somehow found her way into the Famous Five universe??

Re: Monthly Quiz
I'm never top because I'm too slow! In May I did make the 'top three for the month. I scored the same amount as Daisy - 29/30 but because I was slow I ended up in third place, under someone who had scored less, lol!pete9012S wrote:Rob should be top with the highest score.

Re: Monthly Quiz
A very paltry 15 this month.
I agree that the person with the most correct answers should be top. If two or more people have the same score, only then should the quickest time to complete the quiz be taken into account.

Re: Monthly Quiz
Keith introduced the time factor so people couldn't easily look up the answers in their books or on the internet.

Sorry about that, Daisy. I've deleted those attempts so you and Lenoir can do the quiz now.Daisy wrote:I see someone has taken my name in vain on the monthly quiz - and Mr Lenoir too, I would guess. I think I am capable of scoring more than 2 ! Please can admin. cancel?

Re: Monthly Quiz
I think everyone can understand that, and of course, anyone who takes 6 or 7 or 8 minutes shouldn't be included in any top three scores, for this very reason. However, some of us are just slow. I've always been the same in exams and quizzes - because I don't have the sort of photographic memory where a question sinks in on first reading. I usually have to read each question twice.Anita Bensoussane wrote:Keith introduced the time factor so people couldn't easily look up the answers in their books or on the internet.
While the time factor is good to ensure that people don't cheat by looking up answers, I think it still allows people to cheat by having one turn at a very slow speed, noting the questions, and then doing the quiz again. I guess neither system is infallible - but it is rather disappointing when a participant scores, say, 29 but then ends up being third or fourth down the list, behind scores of 27 or 26, purely due to a slower time.
On the other hand its basically just a bit of fun...but surely that means top scores should go down in order rather than 29, 28, 29!

Re: Monthly Quiz
Because of the time factor, I tend to zoom through the questions and just make a quick guess at the ones I know I don't know, as there's not much use in pondering over them. So I may not always get a lot of them right, but I probably wouldn't even if I had time to think about them, as there are still so many books I haven't read. I figure in those cases it's best just to pick whatever I think sounds most likely (which in some cases turns out to be right!) and get through in the shortest time I can manage.
In this case, the timing has actually given me an edge over Daisy (our scores are otherwise equal)!!

If people have had more than one go, it shows on the system (though there may be ways round that).Rob Houghton wrote:While the time factor is good to ensure that people don't cheat by looking up answers, I think it still allows people to cheat by having one turn at a very slow speed, noting the questions, and then doing the quiz again.

Re: Monthly Quiz
I tend to do as you do Courtenay and am already reading the next question while clicking the dot in (hopefully) the right place of the previous one. This time I seemed to have a paralysing pause as I pondered on one question, which delayed me!Courtenay wrote:Because of the time factor, I tend to zoom through the questions and just make a quick guess at the ones I know I don't know, as there's not much use in pondering over them.
