I find Wikipedia very helpful indeed, when I am researching for a History or Geography project: in my opinion, it is an excellent, very convenient source of information.

Wikipedia is a useful starting point even though some entries may contain inaccuracies. If I pick a subject out of thin air - Bach, for example - Wikipedia is sure to teach me things I didn't know and cover the basics fairly concisely. In the case of Bach, I know lamentably little off the top of my head - his full name was Johann Sebastian Bach, he was German, he composed classical music and he lived in (I think) the 1700s. I've seen a portrait of him wearing a powdered wig. Enid Blyton said he was one of her favourite composers. Embarrassingly, I can't recall the title of any music he wrote except Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring - and I only remember that because I learnt to play it on the recorder!

Wikipedia will give me a lot more information and, if I'm unsure of any points, I can check them out elsewhere. Numerous references are given at the end of the article:

Actually you have a good point there, Julie. I discovered a few "facts" in several Wiki pages/topics which were not accurate and corrected them.

You see - those Eileen Soper illustrations are far superior to anything she supplied for The Famous Five! Thanks for showing us this, Pete. Lovely poem too!

Some of my favourite Eileen Soper illustrations are those that she did for the Little Books series.

I agree, John - they're my favourite too. Her full-colour illustrations were wonderful!
