It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Thanks Wolfgang. That is indeed the one I was thinking of.Wolfgang wrote:
I suppose you're referring to the story "Four little wheels", published in Award's "Three Bold Pixies", John. If it's the same story in "Enid Blyton's Sleepytime Tales" (Purnell 1970) and "The Fifth Holiday Book" (Sampson Low 1950) I can't say though.
Anita I remember The Lost Motor Car too but it's a different story.

Ah yes - thanks, Wolfgang. I've read 'Four Little Wheels' too but I don't remember it very well.
Just read Terry Gustafson's review of The Wheel That Ran Away, which I've got in a short story collection under its other title - 'It was Only a Little Thing'. An excellent cautionary tale.

I'd love to read Oh! What a Lovely Time as my avatar comes from that book but I don't actually own a copy! (I took my avatar picture from The Enid Blyton Dossier years ago, before Tony put the Jeanne Farrar illustrations in the Cave.)Tony Summerfield wrote:I have been considering adding another book in the Nursery Series, Oh! What a Lovely Time, but that also got the Templar treatment and was published as a separate book with a changed title in 1990.

As with the first book, this also got another outing when it was put with two other stories in the same Templar series as Tales from Toyland.

Thanks for clearing that mystery up, Anita! I'd been wondering where I'd seen your avatar illustration 'in the flesh' so to speak - and as I don't have the original book, it was obviously in The Dossier that I've seen it!

Re: Website Additions
I've just been reading the latest review of The Dog Who Would Go Digging. I've searched my own collection of stories etc, but sadly haven't got that one. I'd have loved to know how the family stopped the dog from digging, if it did stop at all!

I have the story in a couple of collections - one is the John and Mary version in 'Tales of high Adventure' - a big book - but it originally appeared in 'Enid Blyton's Sunny Story Book' ( 1945).

I like the cover of The Dear Old Snow Man. Reading Terry's review I would very much like to read it. I can imagine the family cat being interested in Peterkin in The Funny Little Shadow, too. I shall have to look out for this book and the other three in the series. I can't recall seeing any of them outside the Cave.

Another good review by Terry. Looking at the other books in that little series the title I find intriguing is Granny's Lovely Necklace.

Thank you a million time over! Very much appreciated, Tony. One of the few books that I haven't found yet.

After reading the story and looking at the beautiful illustrations, I am more determined than ever to find it by hook or by crook! Ganbatte Kudasai!
