I notice that since the 14th November (Happy Forum Birthday, Ming!), eleven people have registered, but not posted.

I wonder why. Are they spammers?

Are the first two the same people? The username is pretty same.

Probably they don't mean to post, anyway.

Edit: I think your statement about none of them having made any posts is wrong, Nigel. "Bumpy Dog" has posted a message in The Author forums.

I see Ming has beaten me to the correction!

Bumpy Dog has posted, and the other usernames just seem a bit too creative to be human, to me at least. :?

I don't think that you can really call anyone a spammer until they post spam! It is true that a great many people register and don't post, but I do check all the email addresses of those registering before approving them. I can say that none of those names on the list has a typical spammer-type email address. I also wondered about the two Digitalman names, but from the email addresses they would appear to be two different people.

I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt to all, but anyone posting spam will be zapped immediately!

Bumpy Dog posted at 1637, my post was submitted at 1613, so it wasn't a mistake! As for your comment, Phil, that they probably didn't mean to post, then why register?

Of course, you are quite right, Tony, they can't be Spammers if they haven't posted! Perhaps I should have said potential spammers!

I'm afraid I'm a bit naive in all this spammers etc. What exactly does it all mean :? Are you saying that people post to cause havoc, or ??

They're usually computer generated users that post useless links to sites where you could just lose your money and invite viruses. I remember one of them linking to Nike boots in the Books forum, and I replied to it, and Lucky or Viking Star if I remember correctly thought I was going to say that Nike boots have now been included in the modern editions of Enid's books!

Our Message Board gets inundated with spammers, Julie. They are mostly advertising porn DVDs and websites. You never see them of course as Barney keeps his paw at the ready and zaps them instantly.

Spammers are the internet equivalent of junk mail and are normally trying to sell you something you don't want. Since this new forum was set up we have had hardly any problems at all and I can only recall having to remove two people. Potential spammers they might be, but if they don't attempt to post they are not doing a very good job of it, and you never know, but they might even be interested in Enid Blyton, which is why they register in the first place.

By comparison with other websites I've visited over the years, the administrators taking anti-spam (and anti-porn) measures on this site are doing a first-class weeding-out job. My most sincere congratulations on that.

Of those who register here but rarely or never post, I'd guess that at least some of them are logging-in from time to time to read through the Boards. Is it possible that a number of them assumed that they had to register before they could read through the Board postings?

It's likely, too, that some of them are just seeking answers to a handful of specific Blyton questions. Why, you ask, don't they just post questions on that mysterious 'Message Board', which gets referred to from time to time, and which some postings I've read allege can be posted on without first registering here? Well, sorry Keith, but first of all you have to find said 'Message Board', and while doubtless it's staring me in the face I've never found it.

If you can't find it, look at the top of the page Aurelien, and you'll see Society Website, press that link and there in true colour you'll see the home page, full of everything you need to enjoy Enid Blyton.

Thanks, Julie, *wiping egg from his face* the 'Post a Message' link, I see. Guess you'll just have to call me  'literal-minded' - reason I enjoy many of 'Moonraker's' posts, 'cos he calls a spade exactly that. *Remembering    that back in the early '90s it took me 2 years to figure out how to 'bookmark' websites as it's actually 'favourites' on MS Internet Explorer!*

Hmm, a veiled compliment methinks. Just as I start to think I've got the hang of the internet (I use Firefox as my browser), something happens to confirm that I am still a no-hoper! My links bar used to be at the top of the screen, immediately next to the Help button. I then lost the URL bar, then the Links bar, eventually getting them back, but the Links bar appeared underneath the URL bar! Much as I have tried, I can't get it back to where it was.

Gah!

Haven't got a clue. You lost me on the third line.

While I use IE7, I do have Firefox at my disposal, but yet I don't know what Nigel means fully. I got it till next to the "Help" button. Then, I fully lost it.

It's hard to describe through the Forums, as a screen shot makes it so much easier to understand. Unfortunately, you have to C&P a screenshot to a photo shop such as Photobucket to display it here. I haven't had the time to do that yet, but I have emailed Ming and Keith!
