I saw that one - and thought it looked a real bargain, as its difficult to find in a dust wrapper...but then I noticed the price sticker obscuring the title...which is a shame...and looks as if it isn't easily removable without damaging the cover. :-(

I didn't think it looked that stuck down but maybe that's just how it looks, it's a bit hard to tell from the photo. I wonder if something like Sticky Stuff Remover or gently heating it would remove it?

I was going to say, there should be solvents available that are meant to remove sticky glue remnants gently without damaging the paper or other materials. I'd ask an expert book collector for advice before trying one, just in case, but it would be worth it for a book that's otherwise in reasonable condition. I don't happen to want a copy of that book at present, but I'd definitely consider this one if I was looking for it. I see the seller is World of Rare Books, too — a very decent seller with usually very good and fair prices.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Lighter fuel is the best thing to remove sticky labels. They come away easily without causing stains.

I already have it in a bit better wrapper than this one, otherwise I would still be tempted. I just presumed that the sticker would be hard to remove, or else I'm sure World of rare books would have removed it already! :-D

As if the cover isn't damaged enough already!

Trouble is, the resulting effect can set off the smoke alarms.

Is this the Secret book that's not going to be produced in the newer editions anymore? If it is it's a bargain!

I believe it is. Really, they should label it "BANNED AND VERY OFFENSIVE!!!" — like that EB Magazine with a Three Golliwogs story that someone was selling on eBay some time ago — and then flog it for at least several hundred quid.

Anita Bensoussane wrote:Yes, the editions with those covers came out in January 2016 and The Secret Mountain is missing from the series. The Kindle version of The Secret Mountain isn't available anymore in the UK either.

I think the dust jacket can be mended to look even nicer. And the price sticker can be removed by using the hot iron(do not put on top of the paper- just so the heat can travel to the sticker is enough). And the sticker is not really stuck down onto the dj. In short, this dw can be mended to look great but this is only my opinion. £16 is a very reasonable price. Whoever decides to buy the book, you have a bargain for sure. :D

Remove the sticker, put the white paper at the back of the dj and protect it with protective sleeve and you can sell it back for £80. Easy money unless you want to keep it, of course.
