Re: The Secret Mountain with dw
Just checked, the other two copies with dj being offered online have the prices of £225(reprinted!, not first) and £30 and the dj looks very tatty with lots of chips and big tear.
£17 with that condition is a bargain.

Hooray, Hayleymoomin! Glad you have someone to talk to about removing the sticker.
I would have been tempted by this one too if I were collecting the Secret series — unfortunately I haven't read any of them yet, so don't know if they would be on my must-collect list! (I only collect the Blyton books that I really enjoy and want to be able to re-read at any time.) But I will get to them some day. Funnily enough, I never saw any of the Secret series books as a child — I don't think I'd ever heard of them at all till I joined the EB Society — despite growing up in a house full of Blyton books!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

If you want to sample Secret series, I recommend you to read Secret Mountain, Courtenay. It is the best in the series, im my opinion. The adventure is very much like Adventure series, the series that you love. I always think that Secret Island is a stand alone.

I don't know what you mean by this comment, Nigel. I have a can of liquid lighter fuel which I usually regularly to remove labels or clean book covers and I never have any problems with smoke alarms. I wonder if you have misunderstood what I meant by using lighter fuel. Re: The Secret Mountain with dw
I read the secret mountain for the first time ever just a few months ago and loved it..as a child I had read the secret island, the secret of spiggy holes and the secret of moon castle but not this one nor the secret of killimooin, so to get this as my first first edition is quite exciting:-) it might be the start of me trying to collect the secret series first editions....kind of going off the topic but if the secret mountain is no longer going to be printed or even avaliable as an ebook what about the river of adventure? Doesn't that depict what the publishers are saying is wrong with this book?? Seems like a slippery slope has started

That's great that you bought it, Haleymoomin! It was a good buy. To be honest, I hadn't looked close enough at it to see it was a first edition! That was very cheap!

I am glad someone has got it, well done Hayleymoomin . Do post how you get on with the label removal, it would be something very useful to know! I have read WD40 is good for sticky label removal, but whether it can be safely used on a book I wouldn't like to say!

You have bought a nice book there, Hayley, but it isn't a first edition - I hope nobody posting in this thread has misled you.Hayleymoomin wrote:I've bought it...it will be my first first edition...

I did wonder if it was a first edition but thought worldofrarebooks would have stated if it was and they hadn't mentioned it.

I was certainly misled! I had seen the book on eBay last week but didn't look closely into it - so just took whoever suggested it was a first edition at their word! That will teach me!Tony Summerfield wrote:You have bought a nice book there, Hayley, but it isn't a first edition - I hope nobody posting in this thread has misled you.Hayleymoomin wrote:I've bought it...it will be my first first edition...
I actually thought it wasn't a first edition - because I don't think first editions of this book had bright orange boards...

No one but Haleymoomin seems to have suggested it was a first edition, as far as I can see!

It's a very nice sensibly priced edition anyway!
