Definitely!
My copy with a dust wrapper, which I bought earlier this year, was 'quite a bit' more money than that - £43.99 - in an auction - my top price! It's a 1947 edition, but it does have an almost-fine dust wrapper and is in extremely good condition.

Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes

I knew it was not the first edition and I hope I didn't state it anywhere here yesterday. Like Pete and Rob, I thought it was a bargain(with a good, repairable dj at that!). The other copies with dj are very expensive.
I stand with justice and the truth. Palestine will be free from the river to the sea.
Learn the history. Do research.
The hypocrisy, double standard, prejudice and bigotry own by some people is so obvious.Shame on them!
Maybe Haleymoomin just meant it was her first 'original' edition rather than a paperback etc? I'm a bit puzzled where the idea of it being a 'first edition' came from - as no one mentioned it until Haleymoomin did!

Oh now that makes sense Rob, someone's wording about their first hardback original as opposed to a first edition of the book itself .

Trouble is, the resulting effect can set off the smoke alarms.
I don't know what you mean by this comment, Nigel. I have a can of liquid lighter fuel which I usually regularly to remove labels or clean book covers and I never have any problems with smoke alarms. I wonder if you have misunderstood what I meant by using lighter fuel. Puzzled!
Sorry, Eddie - obviously a weak attempt at humour. I was suggesting that you might have ignited the lighter fuel to burn off the label.
Wasn't sure where to post this, but I came across it today on facebook. Apparently its Devil's Tower in Wyoming? It struck me what a great location it would be to film 'The Secret Mountain'! Although the Secret Mountain is supposedly in Africa, I just found this natural phenomenon very eerie and mysterious, and it looks impenetrable, like in the book.

Oh wow that looks exactly like how I'd imagine the Secret Mountain, especially if the sun was throwing a yellow tint on it! I didn't think it was possible for a mountain top to be square like that in reality, it looks like the Secret Mountain sticking up out of the Secret Forest!

I agree! To me, it looks almost exactly as the illustrator depicted it! I would go so far as to say the illustrator used Devils Tower as the model for his illustrations.

It's a very odd looking mountain altogether, it looks like it's made of concrete with the leftover cement running down the sides! It has the same sort of peculiar air about it that both the Secret Mountain and the mountain in the Adventure books had, I could easily see it being what the illustrator used as a guide for his drawings.
