I haven't seen vintage Secret Island being listed online frequently.

The only "valuable" title in the lot is Secret Island. The rest are common titles.
Yes - I didn't spot The Secret Island. :-D

I've very rarely seen a copy of Hollow Tree House, even without a wrapper (on eBay anyway) - but I agree I'll tell You A Story is more common.

I overlooked one title that can fetch a good sum of money. Hello, Mr. Twiddle in acceptable dj.

Yes I emailed him and he replied today ....

"Many thanks for your question.

I hadn't realised, but you were completely correct that the wrapper was from a later edition.
I don't want to miss-sell things on here, so i have removed the listing, and will relist it this weekend with the correct information.
Many thanks for pointing this error out."

Wouldn't have liked anyone to have bought it thinking they were bidding on a First Ed with wrapper, so glad he's going to amend it p.

I know I'm cynical, but 'not realising' sounds a weak excuse to me!! :?

Most sellers are not Blyton experts. They just want to sell their things including EB books.

Even Fiona(and including me, maybe) had thought the dw was the first because most people just look at the illustration and the spine. They don't look at other telling point and have eagle eyes like serious collectors.

but its different when the actual book is in front of you, and you can see that the book itself hasn't had a wrapper for some time, because its so grubby. I admit I'm 'hard line' when it comes to book descriptions - that's probably why I sell less books than those who advertise 'first editions' when they are 7th impressions! Plus, if the seller really did think it was a first edition, I think his starting price would have been a lot higher! :-D

Rob,why don't you describe just one of your books for sale in the same way, wack the price up and see what happens as an experiment??

I've thought of doing that! As I said, the one time I sold a book for £90 was The Magic Faraway Tree without a dust wrapper. It had previously been on offer for much cheaper with no takers!

Nah - I'm too honest - and I want to keep my 100% positive feedback! ;-) I couldn't list a book as a First Edition when its actually a 10th or 11th impression - it just feels totally dishonest to me.

It seems dishonesty always wins the day when it comes to selling books these days but I'm not a fan. 8)

What's the most elastic description you could use to stretch out a 'first edition' of Five On A Treasure Island? 1st edition ???? impression?
